betahistine/rash

Posted , 4 users are following.

I've been taking betahistine for 2 weeks and now notice a rash/itching on my chest/shoulders.  Is this common with this med?  Will the rash eventually go away or should I stop the med?

thanks for your help/advice.

    Hi Tanney

A rash is one of the possible side effects with Betahistine.  I don’t think any one who isn’t a doctor can tell you to stop taking a prescribed medicine, so I think you should phone your doctor’s office and ask for some advice.

    All the best

thanks for your reply.  Have you tried betahistine?  if so, did you find it helpful in relieving meniere's symptoms?  How long did it take before you noticed improvements?  How would you describe your improvements?

      thanks again.

Side effects are very rare with betahistine even in high doses so ask yourself if there might be another cause. Have you used a different washing product on your clothing for example, or eaten something you do not usually have?

You should certainly have a follow up with your GP if it does not clear up shortly. In the meantime you could try taking an antihistamine like Zirtek. I take this for my allergies alongside betahistine without any loss of effectiveness of either drug!

thanks for your advice, Neddy.  It's interesting that you take an antihismine along with the betahistine and find the betahistine still effective.  My allergist and ENT told me to stop all antihistimines while on betahistine as they would neutralize the positive effects of the betahistine.  I do take Flonase (not an antihistimine) for my non allegice rhinitis.

      thanks again.

    Hi,

I have been on Betahistine 16mg three times per day and I too have been left with very itchy skin. I have sensitive skin and have suffered before from these effects of a different prescription medication. It's very irritating. S.
