Betain HCL

Has anyone taken betain? If so please kindly tell me why you took it and how you got on with it and if it sorted out the problem?
A lot of people whohave certain symptoms assume they have too much acid and look for an acid suppressor when in fact it might be that they have too little acid and the symptoms are the same but the treatment has to be different. Some take betain HCL for low acid but it is also used for many other things.

There is a simple test you can do at home to see if you have high/low acid which involves drinking bicarb and timing how long before you burp.
You can also do a test using Betaine HCL while eating. Just google home test for stomach acid and look for the SCDlifestyle website (should be quite near the top)
Hope this helps

Most are surprised and have never heard of someone wheezing when they take bicarbonate of soda, so the reaction is not guaranteed to be this or that in each case. And I wanted to find out more about betaine and other peoples' experiences with it before I spend money on it. Have thoroughly researched what is on the websites already. Already have a huge mountain of supplements which were a total waste of money. Any fool can rush out and buy this and that but it makes more sense to research it first.
Have been told to buy melatonin and at least a dozen other things which will not rush out and get either.

You are wise to ask others.
I too have a ton of natural alternative that haven't worked, or I lost faith in them and am no longer using.
I have to betaine HCL too, 250 mg.
I will say get the lowest dose as possible.
Previously I bought a 500mg dosage and took 2 without any symptoms. But stopped.
The best time, inu opinion, to try this method is when you are in control of your reflux and not in a crisis.
Each time I tried was in a crisis and not a good results cause I was already miserable.
I do something think, and I was considering trying again soon, because antacids, Gaviacon, makes me burn more at night. Then I have to take DGL to relieve the antacid burn.
This is an individual course. Usually, one has to try for themselves to see.
Wish you well

Do you have a low stomach acid problem? Did you get relief by taking this? I wont take gaviscon or antacids. Did try the pp1s and pp2s but had bad experiences that were far worse than the illness when taking them. Others suggest liquorice dgl and bicarbonate, but when I took bicarbonate it helped a bit and then gave me wheezing and coughing even if a small dose.
How are you now?

I was told by the doctor that I have acid reflux based on the fact that most people with the auto immune challenge that I have usually suffer from it. It well known.
Now the symptom that I complained about even he said did not sound like acid reflux.
He completely ignored the fact that the endoscopy report performed by another doctor showed hiatus hernia.
He did a stool sample for Hpyloric which was negative. The previous doctor said I has it per endoscopy.
Now, I am leaning toward the hiatus hernia being the issue.
I have a fullness in my right chest and bringing up clear mucus. Not stomach pains or real acid burning at all kn the left side
Clear mucus comes more after drinking or eating.
I am learning to control mucus by waiting for an hour after eating before drinking
I eat small meals and chew my food a lot.
I take mastic gum, beginning today and DGL with mastic gum and other items to support digestion.
I take digestive enzyme and pay attention to what triggers my symptoms.
I am feeling so much better.
I am allowing for the healing to happen.
What are your symptoms?

Hi Carmen, I'm taking Betaine and it appears to help. I've only been on it about a month. Will provide more status later.
