Better

Instead of all doom and gloom some signs of improvement. Today was my last day of inhome PT and I decided to push it instead of a short walk using my crutch the therapist and I walked 1 mile well I did did it hurt absolutely will I do it again anytime soon ? NO WAY!!! Instead of using 2 crutches now I use mostly 1 or my cane. Still have constant pain but I have noticed I am also getting sharp pains in my knee which I believe is coming from increased activity. Pain wise instead of a strong solid 7 I will give it a high 6 low 7 which is better not great but better. I am also doing okay with taking less pain meds at first it was 2 every 4-6 hours ( dilaudid 4mg ) for a total of 6 per day now I am at 3 tried only taking 2 another dumb mistake on my part. Thats when I posted the Rough Night. Still have a long way to go but the PICC line comes out the 2nd start out patient PT on the 8th.

just to be clear its not major progress its really just slightly better. I use my cane when I walk and I do not think I could walk any slower if I tried. There are times when there is shooting pain in my knee and it wants to just give out. Then of course there is the constant pain issue it still sucks I still feel like I am several weeks behind from my last revision so no real reason to jump for joy yet!!

Good to hear you are doing better. They say baby steps first. The pain will decrease. Try taking 1 pill every 4 to 6 hrs since they are 4 mg. I am on 2mg every 4 hours but now every 6 to 10 hours as pain decreases.

Sounds like you are making some progress.

Sometimes I can tell its getting better but then today being a good example the knee is driving me nuts. It hurts it swollen and to get right down to it I can blame myself for part of it. Yesterday the therapist and I walked approx. 1 mile ( I had to try but pretty stupid!! ) I also cut the lawn that is easy sit on the tractor but I had to use a weed trimmer later ( also not good!! ) Today did a little more trimming and I had to get a few groceries so this very minute miserable is a good term, my guess if I do nothing the next few days it will go back to semi normal pain. To me its amazing had 5 revisions and yes it hurt but after the first month I could tell things were improving now that I am on #6 I am way behind where I wanted to be. I really feel I am a good 3 - 4 weeks behind from where I was at this time with the last surgery. This really stinks.

You are really getting things done. I just started walking with my cane, still having sciatica. But getting less flare ups. My range of motion is still limited but my physical therapist is still working on it. After 6 revisions I had to look this up, you are doing way better than me. My first ltkr and I am 12 weeks post op. Take care

hope this sound right but it does not matter who you are any TKR is going to hurt only real difference is when you have had numerous surgeries like me all on the same knee then the pain goes up several notches. 1 thru 5 hurt but I had not idea this one was going to hurt even if worse. Whats good in your case this is your 1st ( hopefully your last at least on that knee ?? ) and recovery time is much quicker by the time you reach the 3 to 4 month mark the pain you feel now will be a bad memory I on the other hand will still be hating life unfortunately. Sometimes I think some surgeons tend to stretch the truth or tend to avoid telling you the patient how its going to feel after the surgery and make it sound it will not be that bad, as we have found out a lot of BS it hurts a lot. My surgeon so far has been very accurate I was hoping he was making it worse then it was going to be but I was wrong. No matter how blah you feel it could be worse you could have my knee issues.

Hi I'm 4 months post ltkr and at last feel normal. Had xray and seen Dr yesterday everything is great. Occasional pain and have a bit of scar tissue which the kind Dr did confirm when he does my right knee will remove the scar tissue I stress When because I'm not ready for that just yet but sleeping OK no meds walking fine without any aids. All in all pleased with result arthritic pain no more. I say to everyone patience when your knee says stop and rest do it.

Ann this good news. I am 12 weeks post ltkr and starting to feel less pain. I know I have scar tissue because of limited range of motion and working with my physical therapist. Also I have sciatica which effects the same left side of back through the knee. I see my surgeon next month for follow up .You are right patience and rest.
