Bi-lateral inguenal hernia surgery gone wrong?

I had bi lateral inguenal hernia surgery back in Nov 2016. The surgeon who I don’t trust now at all told me I had hernias on each side from doing an untrasound only. He told me he was going in lyproscopic and I would be ok in 6 weeks. He said he was not going to use mesh and does a meshless procedure.

Well I woke up and was cut open on both side of my grown and since then I have had nothing but issues.

I went back and he told me to get a shot to help the pain.

I didn’t get the shot and figured it was part of healing.

Well about 3 weeks ago I could not take it anymore and went back to the surgeon and he did an ultrasound again and said they were back and he would not charge me and needs to use mesh.

I decided to go to another doctor to get a second opinion and he ordered a ct scan of my pelvis area.

He told me he has never heard of a surgeon not to use mesh especially when they cut someone open.

He also told me there was a tack inside me which makes sense from the pain I’m having.

He also told me my hernias are fine.

And told me to maybe get a colonoscopy to check for colon cancer??!!??

So I have the first surgeon telling me I need surgery to fix the hernia again with mesh.

A second doctor that says my hernias look fine but tells me a tack is in me and to get a colonoscopy.

So is the first doctor covering his ass to get this tack out?

If my hernias are not back why would this doctor want to preform surgery on me again?

And now the cancer issue is strange also.

I have had nothing but pain in my surgical areas, I can’t move or walk right, my lower abdominal area always hurts now and I have a hard time breathing at times like something is pinching up my body.

My stool have been brutal. They are mostly explosions and I have to sit sideways to poop to have it come out.

I have an appointment this week with a 3rd doctor.

Any help or advice be cool.

I’m to the point of total depression cause I am almost to the point I can’t stand at work anymore like I do, driving hurts me cause of the pressure of sitting on an angle.

It a mess.

I’m not the best speller or with vocabulary.

Thanks

Scott

A suture repair without mesh is always done open so if you were told it was going to be laparoscopic without mesh then that sounds very strange. If you have a tack then you have mesh as no mesh is repaired with sutures and mesh can be held in place with tacks so none of this really makes sense.

It sounds like you may have some form of bowel obstruction.

It doesn’t make sense to me. The tack looks like a staple in the ct scan.

I believe I might have a surgeon that I was an experiment of some kind on. That’s how I feel.

My primary doc is going to look at my CT tomorrow to find out what’s going on.

Was the no mesh surgery provided by a surgeon well versed in that technique?

Are you able to have a conventional colonoscopy?

My most recent colonoscopy had to be aborted just after it began because my left side inguinal hernia had constricted the colon and for a few moments the endoscope became stuck. I too have to sit at an angle while having a bowel movement but my hernia surgery isn't until next month.

Because I have a family history of colorectal cancer ie father, mother and mother's two sisters all died from colon cancer my family doctor didn't want me to wait until I could have the colonoscopy repeated. I too have had a colon resection that was precautionary due to a malignant polyp. My doctor sent me for a CT scan specifically for imaging of the colon, (CT Colonography.) It doesn't take the place of the colonoscopy but does do a credible job of identifying areas of concern.

I do wish you get the help you need as soon as possible

Hi. I'm sorry to hear of your issues but can't really help. I had a mesh done and still get occasional aches and twinges when I had none before. It seems like hernia fixes of any kind often have problems - so that's why my father refused to have his done.

Hey Scott. Everything you’ve been told or are telling us makes no sense. If he went in laparoscopic you would have 3 small incisions-one near the Emmy button and the others above the waitband. So like you said he didn’t go in lapro. Since you have two large incisions on both sides he obviously went in openly and this is the only way surgeons perform a non mesh repair so not sure what the second surgeon is saying when he said they don’t do open non mesh repairs-when infant this is how they indeed do it.

And then the fact that there is a tac makes this even more confusing as tac’s are used to secure mesh!

I would get your operative report from the first surgeon to find out exactly what he did and didn’t do.

The Hospital medical records is where you need to go to get the operative report.

Get all the facts before you  go in for another surgery.

The surgeon told me he was going to do liproscopic and when I woke I was cut open. He did not use mesh in me.

The tack inside me I am assuming is holding my organs up.

I’m headed to the doctor this morning to find out what’s up.

Trying to get my report from the surgeon is not easy.

I requested it 3 times and nothing.

To fix hernias the old fashion was (no mesh) they use sutures close the defect not tacks. They do use tacks to fixate mesh. This is why all the info you are being given is so very confusing.

Don’t bother getting the operative report from your surgeon, just goto the hospital where you had the surgery and head to the medical department they are legally obliged to give you a copy of the report.
