Big issue for me

Posted , 8 users are following.

4 months ago when my anxiety was severe i developed this problem that i don't know a name for it.

I tend to lose my concentration and kind of focus on trash things.

as an example i can be talking to someone and then i notice with my eyes like a red light behind them or a hair on their face or a pimple or whatever then my concentration would shift on this thing and i try to force myself to not focus on it but obv. the harder i try the worse it gets.

and this thing is happening now more often than not.

I don't know what the hell is that since i never had that before only around 4 month ago.

I am now 25 years old.

Can you tell me if there's a name for that condition or what is that ?

Hi Michelle, how were you able to reduce? I am at 20 mg for a year and want to reduce to 10 mg. Not sure where to begin and how long it will take me. Any suggestions? Thx

I reduced down over a period of 2 months to come off completely but felt the symptoms coming back and just went back on 10mg and was fine .You have to do it gradually though if you ask your doc or pharmacist they are very helpful and know all about the medication they will tell you how to do it .

Agree with Michelle - this is just a symptom of anxiety, and you're right, the more you try to push it away the more it will cling.  Concentration is a problem with suffering with anxiety and it comes out in all of us in different ways.

Best thing when you experience it is to just let it happen.  Relax towards it, let it happen and if talking to someone just gently chat to them but knowing your concentration isn't what it should be.  Getting uptight about it just reinforces it.

There is no name for it as its not a condition - its just a side effect of anxiety.  Once the anxiety eases and goes away so too will this problem.

Hi there,I have had this problem for many years. You May have developed OCD.It is very unpleasant but can be managed.Do some research on OCD,it will help.Do not worry to much.See the Dr,get some counselling,it really helps.

Why it is OCD...wont it rather be some kind of attention deficiency rather than a compulsive disorder ?

Can you please elaporate more on why did you say OCD ? Can you tell me more about your experience as this thing is really important to me and causing me distress.

      Thanks alot

Its not OCD - its lack of concentration is due to anxiety, plus most people who have anxiety get fixated on something whether it be thoughts, something physical, rumination, fearful thoughts etc etc ........ this is just the nature of anxiety - its just side effects.  Once the anxiety goes so do all these.

Don’t forget 5mg tablets are available.

I am interested in 5mg tablets as I am taking 15 so cutting 10mg in half. Are you in UK?

I don't think there's 5milligrams..at least not in the USA..

I bought a pill cutter and chopped my 20mg's into 1/4's making each one 5mg.  Always check with your doctor though before playing around with any medication and reducing / increasing.

Hi. Doc ok with 15 but said that it was not a therapeutic dose. I was on 10 and she upped me to 20 but I decided 15 was ok for me. Been on it for 3 weeks and feeling fairly well. I too use a pill cutter.

In the USA there is no such thing as a therapeutic dose...iam on ten and recovered...

Everyone is different so a therapeutic dose for one person wouldn't be the same therapeutic dose for another.  Also it may not suit everyone to jump straight from 10mg to 20mg which is why 15mg is always a safer option.

Lois recovered on 10mg whilst I recovered on 20mg.

The trials and tribulations of these meds biggrin
