Big ovarian cyst having surgery soon

I'm kind of new here and was wondering if anyone has anything similar to my experience. I'm 17 and I think I can handle pain pretty well, and I never go to the hospital, but this pain was excruciating, I was huddled over in the bathroom floor, calling anyone who could take me to urgent care, while I was at urgent care I had blood tests done and I had a CT scan. All the while in really bad pain l, the pain happened in waves. I would be normal with a dull pain on my right lower side than it would spike up like a roller coaster to excruciating pain to where it was hard to walk, talk, and concentrate on anything. So when I finally found out what it was after being in the hospital for 6 hours, I was told I have cystic ovaries with and ovarian cyst. Because it was a CT scan I wasn't told anything other than the fact that I had one. And I was put on antibiotics for a uti (I have no idea why it did nothing) than given pain medication. It seemed to work out okay I was feeling better. Than walking to work one day I doubled over in awful pain and I couldn't walk and had to go to the library which was the closest building and sit on the floor and call anyone who could take me to the regency room. So I went and the did more blood tests and finally a ultrasound. So the doctor comes in and tells me that I had two 10cm ovarian cysts when I went in for the CT scan. Now they tell me that one of them ruptured and the other grew to 17cm. So he gave me different pain medication and told me to go home and schedule surgery to have it removed. The pain was awful this time around on a constant wave of pain. The pain meds only did so much. I was constantly nauseated and had to call out of work. If I stood up too long the whole world was spinning. So a couple more days passed and I had the worst pain attack of my life. I have never been in so much pain went to the ER they did more tests, I was given better pain meds because my others stopped working and finally nausea meds which help soooo much I'm scheduled for surgery Friday the 15th and since the last ultrasound I haven't had another one and I feel it growing. I actually feel a heaviness on my left side where it is and if I lay or sit The wrong way I feel it. I'm assuming it's pushing on my other organs because I can't eat much and when I have to pee I have to go right then. They say they might have to take one of my ovaries. I'm scared I've never had surgery.

      Hi heather.

I've had a right ovary taken out, it didnt stop me from having three kids either.

You just ovaliate every other month!

Anyway I have said about my case in here already, you will feel a bit uncomfortable,

But alot better after when it's all done.

Just don't lift heavy things, for a while after, so you can heal properly inside.

      I'm 51 now I don't really have any problems.

Just the menopause but you have a long way off from that lol.

Anyway god bless let me know how you are getting on afterwards . 😊

      Hi Elizabeth,

Your first sentence is giving me hope. I'm currently going through scans and discussions with my gynaecologist, my diagnosis hasn't been concluded yet but there was the mention of possibly removing the right ovary. I really don't want that and I'm praying to God for help.

So do you mean with one ovary, ovulation occurs once in 2 months? Oh well, I'm happy things still worked out well for you and I pray same for me and us all. Thanks and God bless.

      Hi tardam

Yes you ovulate every other month with one ovary. I didn't stop me from getting pregnant!!

I fell quite quickly for my children, you only need one ovary anyway. Just means that with two ovaries, you ovulate every month.

So no worries about having children there.

It's not knowing the unknowing, that causes anxiety in people I think.

But medical procedures have become so advanced nowadays, I don't think there's too much to worry about.

      Hi Elizabeth,

Many thanks for your response. And you're right, no need for worries and better not to worry.

      Thanks again.

Hi Heather, don't be afraid to badger your doctors and surgeons as much as you can. Let them know about any new symptoms however trivial they seem, and if you think they're growing, demand an appointment or another scan. The NHS is unfortunately full of time wasters clogging up the system - and they need to put you high on their priorities - the sooner they sort it, the fewer complications and risks. Don't worry about feeling a nuisance.

    Hi Heather,

I'm sure you're done with the surgery now; hope it went well.

My case is similar to yours, I had no history of pain or illness when one morning March this year, I got intense pain. I was rushed to the hospital but I was admitted immediately and had the surgery the next day, had a huge ovarian cyst.

As others have said, you'll need to take it easy for a while. Avoid driving if you do (you can ask the doctors for a time estimate), don't lift heavy stuff, avoid trying to carry things way above you where you'd need to stretch, try to let both the stiches and the inside heal.

And badger your doctors with questions as hannah said, any trivial pain could be something........I'm having a similar experience where I didn't think pains I felt after surgery meant much and I'm just prarying things work out well.

So please ask questions about any and everything. Best wishes.
