Yes I've had this for years and it has now been treated - for good I hope. How can I help.

I had a big toe fusion which, of course, I put off. I spent many years in pain, my footwear tolerance became more and more diminished, and I couldn't walk properly which impacted on other joints like my knee and hip. The fusion takes a good 6 -9 months to recover from but it's been amazing for me. I had no choice in the end as the OA in the toe was so bad the bone was rubbing on bone.

Really pleased this worked for you, I have thought about this but the thought of being knocked out puts me off, but what are the options??? how long did you cope before the op?

so sorry for late response - have been felled by back spasms but that's another story. I tried for years to cope with the foot pain but in the summer I could only wear one pair of sandals and my winter options became more and more limited as the joint was so swollen and misshapen. I had steroid injections for a few years but then they said there was nothing to inject into. When I saw the ortho surgeon she said I had waited too long and on x-ray said it was one of the worst cases she had seen. I understand anaesthetics are scarey for many people but I've had so many over the years I don't worry any more. Foot surgery takes 9 months to fully recover from but it is the end of pain and my footwear choices are gradually increasing. Hope that helps.
