Big Toe joint fusion

I had a Bunionectomy last Nov and still in a lot of pain.  Doctor wants to do a joint fusion. Has anyone had this done? Would it relieve the pain? Not sure if I want to go through this again.

    Hi Chris,

I had a bunionectomy last December, the bump was still there so my consultant said the best thing was to have another bunionectomy with fusion and realignment, I have arthritis in the big toe.

My op wasn't successful again, the surgeon said he "off shot" my big toe, I now have a gap between the toes, I can not wear normal shoes and trainers and boots make the big toe very red and warm.

I am in more pain now then with the original bunion, I'm walking on one side of the foot which is making my ankle and knee sore.

I have another appointment with my consultant next  week to see the what the next step is.

     Good luck!

    Hello

I had toe fusion 4 years ago as the Doctor said it was best as if he just tidied up the bunion, I would be back within 2 years in pain.

Recovery for me seemed a long time as foot did not return to normal size until a year later and had to get used to there effectively being no joint but the pain was taken away and I can run.
