Bilateral knee pain

I had bilateral knee replacement 3 years ago and a revision 8 weeks ago due to failure of the cement they've used but the other knee is not right either, did anyone have a similar problem?

How is your new knee doing? I had a bilateral done two years ago and on knee has never been right and continues to get worse. I knew the first week that i was going to have trouble with it but my surgeon kept saying give it time. The other knee is not as bad but is still tight. How did the doctor determine your problem was the cement? Did you have any scar tissue? I know it is very discouraging. i am going to make an appointment with my surgeon one final time. i think its time to get a second or third opinion and see another surgeon. Im also in the US?

      Hi Patty,

So sorry you have to go thru all of this! Don't feel guilty going to another doctor! What state are you in?

I am in Winston Salem, North Carolina. We have tons of medical centers in this area. So i do believe I'll give it till the summer then get a second opinion.

the surgeon did not believe me at first it took over a year of complaining to him. The X-rays were always great and they did a bonescan what showed some uptake but the radiologist said basically normal but it was very hard to put weight on it and very painful so finally he decided to do surgery and then they saw the cement had debonded and I had moderate synovitis and the whole knee was unstable and they end up putting a whole new knee in but the other knee is not good either but he almost gets mad when I mention it so very difficult if the surgeon acts like you making it up.

    Hello Corrie,

Sounds like me .... Here's my wonderful (NOT) story....

Dec 19 2018 was my 3rd surgery on the same (left) knee! 1st was a partial dec 2015 / feb 2016 had to have a revision - tray was too big and a tendon was rubbing on it... this past May the tray came loose!

Needless to say got a different doc and a total new everything! Hubbie says I am doing much better than the other 2 but some days it’s so stiff it’s difficult to walk properly.. I am getting there though. I had in-home PT and now going to out-patient. today at PT was the best so far on the bike! I was able to keep going AROUND! YES!!!!

I was never without pain since my first surgery - never! I took Ibuprofen every day and smothered my knee with Blue Emu (stuff works and it doesn't stink - lol), my pain level in the morning is a 7 -stiffness- but during the day down go 2-3 cause i am working from home and sitting at my desk and not getting up enough!

I pray every day that this surgery will heal healthy and I can get on with my life! I am a pretty active 62 year young woman who loves the outdoors, excited to stand up paddle board, have fun and be crazy with my 2 grandkids and to continue to enjoy all I can with my wonderful loving hubbie.

I hope you are doing well and healing quickly. Lets keep in touch!

    Deb from Northern VA

Actually having both knees done wasn't really that bad , the knee revision was much worse but I sound like you knee is still very stiff and can't sit that long or walk very far because both knees hurt and give way.

I did 8 weeks PT and started doing my ellipitical again not without pain but always have been a healthy in shape 60 year old overachiever and these knee have not improved . Good luck to you hope your knee continues to improve
