Biopsy sample

I have requested a paper review of my recent diagnosis of adenocarinoma - this is been carried out by a Boston Hospital. Unfortunatly they are having difficulties in getting the hospital (Dublin, Ireland) to release the biopsy specimen which is essential to the review. Do I not own the biopsy and surely on that basis the biopsy specimen should be released? Any advice please??

I doubt you can get the actual specimen released. It might have even been destroyed. It wouldn't be sent to another hospital anyway. Normally when second opinions are carried out it's just images and reports that are looked at.

I agree with leenipie - it would be normal practice to destroy the sample once the necessary tests had been carried out and results recorded. There should be scan images and recorded data of the biopsy which can be sent to another hospital for them to re-analyse but it is not customary to send actual biological tissue samples certainly.

thank you both for your replies. puzzling then why the hospital who specialise in carrying out reviews advised me of this. My own consultant advised me this evening that he will speak with pathology tmw and give me update

I am pleased to advise that my Hospital has sent the sample to the Boston Hospital following intervention from my consultant.
