Hi guys,

I was just wondering if anyone could help me please. I am on MTX and hydroxychloroquine and massively losing my hair.

I have heard biotin can help, but it comes in different doses so i've no idea what to take and just wondered what others are?

Thank you

Hi Sarah, I am on MTX also and have been for 3 years.  I started taking Biotin at 1000 mcg. a day.  If you go on line and read about taking Biotin and hair loss it will help you as to how much to take.  I don't like taking pills and I an very cautious about taking large amounts of anything, so I always buy the smallest amount of any vitamin and start with that.  Good luck. It takes time to see results.  The strands of my hair are very thin but I now have lots of them although I still have problems of hair breakage so after it grows some I keep cutting off the thin ends.

Thanks Jo, yeah i did look but people were taking 300, 1000 or 2000!

I've got 1000 just to be in the middle!

Glad you are seeing some results! Hope you continue to get more!

MTX is an anti metabolite.  Hair is just one part that doesn't get the nutrition.  I've only been advised to take folic acid.  But take it at a separate time from when you take the MTX.  There are shampoos that have nutients in them also

Yeah i do take folic acid, but only because i have to. Don't see any benefits from it, doesn't reduce side effects and all it does is make me feel sick!
