Bipolar and anxiety anyone?

Do you have bipolar II and anxiety? What meds are you currently on and how long have you been in treatment? I feel like it's taking so long. Just want to connect with others - compare notes.

Hi su.. I have Bipolar 1 and anxiety/depression are all part of the Bipolar itself between the high's and lows.. Im currently taking quetiapine 100mg. seroquel XR, Mirtazapine 30mg, Sodium Valproate 500mg, Olanzapine 10mg and Diazepam 5mg (when anxious) Its hard to compare people with others as everyone has a different cycle of mood swings.. You may be high for a few weeks & them come crashing down for another few weeks. My meds kicked in by week 5.. Hope that this helps. CHEERS

My mood stabilizers are lamotrigine and gabapentin. Right now I'm working to control my anxieties as it's pretty severe. Do you find your meds work well or do you still experience the extreme highs and lows? I know there isn't a magic pill that will make things normal 100% of the time but hoping to hear someone has success at least most of the time. Thank you!

Hi su.. I can understand why you are asking about mood stabilizers & still suffering through severe anxieties.. It took a while before phsyc found a medication that worked with me.. At first, I questioned IF my meds were working at all. After some time & perseverance, I was put on many kinds of meds until they found what worked for me & tweeking the required dosage. I still suffer through the high's & low's but not the extreme levels where Im unable to ride those waves.. I spend leiss money, put a limit on overboard activities, prevent racing thoughts from completely overtaking, relaxing through the anxious periods with the 'self help techniques'.. Unfortunately, like I mentioned, there is no magic pill that will cure all BUT they will help you to control the high & low waves.. Be patient sweety. IF you dont feel that your medication is doing its justice, consult your Dr & express your concern hun.. I will be interested to know how you go.. BIG hugs

I appreciate you taking the time to write and offer words of encouragement. It's been a year and it sometimes feels there's no end in sight. The benzo she's given me temporarily doesn't even seem to work at times so it gets a little discouraging. The treatment plan is to eventually add an SSRI to the mix but after my last reaction to Zoloft, I'm not that enthusiastic about it. I have a follow up appointment in two weeks so we'll see how it goes. Again thanks for the kind words. It goes a long way.
