bipolar depression

I was diagnosed with bipolar last year after a manic episode.

Been depressed for nearly 2 weeks, struggle to get out of bed. I take my daughter to school then straight back to bed where I stay all day. Trying to fight it before it gets worse. Does anyone with bipolar see visions like a dream but your awake of something bad happening to family members and feel strongly that its going to happen and that your the only person to stop it from happening.

    Hi Fab,

I'm bipolar as well, only diagnosed 5 years ago. I was hospitalized a few times for depression but managed to function.  In hypomania and mania I tended disappear, so very few people suspected.

If the depression is as bad as you described you probably should seek medical attention - there are medications that can keep you from crashing. It sounds like you may be experiencing some type of hallucination (they can be visual, auditory, even smells/scents that others don't experience).

I think it's natural to worry about family members, especially when the bipolar is giving you strong messages - it can feel like a preminition.  You didn't mention what medication you're on, if you're a single parent or if you have family/supports.

Please take good care of yourself, be gentle on yourself and consider getting help as soon as possible. It's not worth

it' s not worth waiting to see what's going to happen next - you probably dont want to go any lower and, two weeks is long enough to tough it out.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.  Karin

I was diagnosed bipolar last year , struggled with quetapine , my doctors prescribed me antidepressants before Christmas and I feel loads better, if quetapine is a mood stabiliser how can it get us out of the depressive state, I'm terrified of going that low again. Like u I got up took my son to work and went back to bed and slept and hid away, I'm so thankful for my doctor, I need to be monitored on the fluoxetine so I dint have any manc episodes but I definately needed something to get out go the low state, go speak to doctor , hope u feel better soon.

Well I am suppose to but the psychiatrist wanted me on 600mg a day, I just piled the weight on and felt like a zombie, last summer feels just like a blur to me now, I came off the meds then went flat, couldn't cope with work or talking to anyone that's when I went into deep depression , the occupational therapist at work said I was I denial about being diagnosed bi polar but to me I'm sure it was depression now , as the quetapine is a mood stabiliser , I have suffered for years with mood swings and only just had the diagnosis last year so I'm still confused about it all, I've seen a different psych arteries now and he's happy for me to stay on the fluoxetine as long as it's working for me and so far so good, I went back to work in January and have felt loads better. Sorry for rambling on .this depression is a horrible place ,

Also yes I had the anxiety feelings about something bad happening to family members , I always had bad thoughts about something happening to my son  he's 22 now but I had OCD about we checking in him and if he's a few mins late home I would panic, I was put on propranolol for anxiety which helped so maybe u need different medication, don't just accept what the psychiatrist tell u , everyone is so different .

    Hi Fab

I was diagnosed with bipolar in 1998 and have been stable for many years now.  I take CItalopram 40mg for the depression and Risperidone 3mg to prevent the recurrence of hypo-mania induced by the Citalopram.  I also get anxiety and ocassionally, obescesional thoughts.  I've never had full blown hallucinations in the way you describe so I used just get hypo-manic not manic, hence the Bipolar II dignosis instead of Bipolar I.  I also used to get Mixed States, which is a horrid situation where depression and hypomania/mania occur at the same time, absoultely horrid and could be what you are experiencing now.

Just re-read that and not sure it  makes sense...  To be more practical, I think you need more help, see someone quickly and describe your symptoms.  But remember, there is light at the end of the tunnel, you may need to switch meds a few times before finding the right combination for you but you will get better :-)

We're here for you. BP can be a rough ride, when you get stabilized and have some extra energy check out bipolar advantage on the internet. I took the course and it has been amazing, probably as good as all the medications - the  course is designed and lead by someone who is BP. There is  also a facebook page which  of is made up for BP participants, I think it's a great way to become as functional as possible and have BP friends who really understand. The best to you
