Hello fellow Bisoprolol buddies - I cannot actually believe that I didn't think of doing a search on Bisoprolol earlier as it is so comforting to have discovered this web page. I have been taking Bisoprolol Fumarate 5mg daily for the past 3 years following a frightening episode in town which resulted in my spending a week in the Cardiac ward of our local hospital. I had SVT while in hospital and the 'specialists' couldn't actually put a cause to my soaring blood pressure and rapid heartbeat. So, I've been told to stay on these tablets for life... I'm 48 now, was 45 then.

The comforting thing about reading the majority of these posts is that so many people are feeling ridiculous levels of tiredness; I don't recognise myself from 3 years ago. This isn't whingeing, just stating a fact. I have piled on the pounds - particularly blubby around my midriff - yet I eat less than ever. I am sometimes so overcome by exhaustion that I have to stop even the most trivial of chores. I have lost my 'get up and go', yet used to be so active with my three kids. I used to be so house proud, yet now can'tbe bothered other than to 'keep on top' of the housework. I used to love socialising, again, can't be bothered most of the time and when I do, I am glad when it is over. I love the peace and quiet of my own company so much more now and feel exhausted by company. Yet I AM ONLY 48 YEARS OLD!!!

I realise I am lucky to be alive, to be uncursed by serious ills, but still, it is healthy to have a little moan now and then, and gratifying to feel online empathy with other 'sufferers'. I find that my partner and children don't really understand - can't blame them, I don't truly either.

Take care one and all.

    Hi,

I have just been put on these today and am about to take 2.5mg. I am worried about the side effects listed as before I was diagnosed with Stable Chronic Heart Failure I was diagnosed with CFS. Now the docs are saying it is actually my heart not CFS so am now taking this beta blocker. I am already suffering from severe

fatigue and do not want it to get worse. Does it get any better after a period of time?

    Hi Jake,

I have been on an increasing dose of bisoprolol and am now on 10mg a day. I have found that the more you take the worse the fatigue gets and for me it has stayed that way. I have been on 10mg for six months now and the weariness has just gone on and on. Hopefully you won't need a higher dose and you can adjust to a slightly slower life... . . . . .

Good luck and hope you stay well

    Hi everyone,

Really reassuring to see all these messages, I didn't know what was happening to me! I was put on Bisoprolol a month ago and since then I am exhausted all the time. It's affecting my general attitude to life and bringing me down.

On top of that I have been getting dizzy spells at least once a day (I don't know if anyone else gets these?) And really vivid dreams every night.

I want to know if it will get better and if I am going through a 'settling in' period, or whether this is it and it will stay like this or get worse?

I'm 27 and was put on them for a genetic condition they discovered in my family called Long QT.

I was diagonosed with af almost 3 yrs ago. I'm now 67 yrs old. I was put on bisoprolol 5mg increased last eyear to 7.5mg,Rampril 5mg and aspirin. I have all the side effects mentioned in the first post. Everyday is a challenge to get up from my chair and do normal things ie gardening, cooking etc. My doctor has now decreased the dose to 5mg but I feel no benefit from this reduction.I have recently had a holter fitted 24 hrs and am awaiting the results. My doc wants to read the results before he considers changing the beta blocker. After reading discussions I am worried that an alternative beta blocker may be more of a problem, although i did read on the web of a patient who stopped taking his bisoprolol. He told his doc he had done this,to which he approved. I would be too scared to stop taking any medication before having my doc approve first. But I do hate how I am living my life at the moment. I would like my life back and to think I was still working part time until 2 and half yrs ago.The side effcts are so dibillitating.

elizabeth12.I have to keep telling myself that were it not for the drugs most of us would not be around to have these discussions, see our children or grandchildren etc. etc. and in an ideal world the amount of effort companies put into formulating them would be into researching natural means and methods to prevent, alleviate or cure our ailments, this is not going to happen as they are unable to patent natural products and therefore unable to make profits that a successful business requires. Keep searching however for ways and means that may help you to either reduce your dependency on drugs or will improve your wellbeing whilst still taking them and this could be anything from what you eat or drink to aids such as a resperate machine or tai chi etc. etc. Stay positive and God Bless. Thanks Mick. I really would like to know what are the consequences of not taking bisoprolol. Some days I feel like lowering my dose to 2.5mg. Like others have said the medication for this condition isn't an exact science (none is ). My doc is good but soon to retire. I can't get an appointment with him. The other docs are less knowing of me .I'm aware that the medication could well be my life saver but its a fine line when you have loads of side effects-- always tired,no energy, everything is an effort, weight gain, feel like i'm walking in treacle, heavy legs, shaky on my legs, hate walking cos of how i feel, back ache ,posture is poor-i sit for too long) cos of how nervous i feel when walking.and of course the dreadful butterflies in my chest.

I can't thank you all for sending your info on bisoprolol. Its so re -assuring to know others know how I feel. I must be having a bad few days.i will get my head round it. thanks everyone.

Hi all, I am 36 and have been takin Bisoprolol 2.5mg for 15 months after developing and arrythmia after spinal surgery. It basically felt as if my heart was skipping beats but going faster to catch up...losing my breath in the process rolleyes.....The fatigue can be unreal at times, completeley wiping me out at times. The reason for the fatigue is the drug lowering the blood pressure too much...so should i stop taking them??

I have been on this pill since March 2006. I have experienced all of these symptoms. However, I would stick with it.

I have sorted out the weight gain.

My one piece of advice is that I have found the side effects have become better since I split my dose since 2009. I am on 10mg daily. However I take 5mg in the morning and then 5mg with my Warfarin in the evening. If you are experiencing issues I would discuss with your GP splitting the dose along these lines.

It has removed the worst of the side effects. However, the feeling of tiredness remains. However, I am finding that it wears off by 11am. In the evening the feeling of tiredness seems to be more linked to a full day of activity such as working etc.

I feel so relieved to find these posts - I have developed svt since having my son in 2006 and was prescribed propanarol to take if I felt an episode coming on which worked well with little side effects, however my consultant changed this to 2.5mg of bisoporol about 3 yrs. ago. I have been back to the docs with side effects a number of times , particularly feeling spaced out in the morning until about 11am but keep getting fobbed off with it being anxiety. Although my dose is low it really does seem to effect the way I am feeling!

My present doc put me on the lowest dose three months ago because of an arrhythmia that I've had since having a heart attack 21 years ago. My old doctor, who has recently retired, never prescribed beta blockers because of this arrhythmia. My present doc then upped the dose to 2.5 about six weeks ago, and the fatigue it is causing is unbelievable. I'm 67, and used to be able to walk the mile to work in 17 minutes. It now takes 25. I went back to the surgery last week and told the doc about the fatigue, and he has referred me to the rapid response chest pain clinic, even though I haven't got chest pains. He told me to keep taking the BB.

I really cant cope with the fatigue these pills are causing. I am supposed to be going to Spain for two weeks next Tuesday, but the fatigue is, for the first time ever, making me have second thoughts about travelling.

I am 71 and have been on 5mg of bisoprolol for nearly five years for occasional bouts of Atrial Fibrillation. I can recognise symptoms in this discussion that I didn't associate with bisoprolol: waking up during the night with numb hands ; nightmares and occasional periods of tiredness. The main things that really bother me are the nightmares. However, on the brighter side, I enjoy walking at least a mile everyday. I exercise regularly with a pair of 3kg dumbbells (been weight-training since I was seventeen) and still enjoy my hobbies of playing guitar and photography. I also enjoy socialising with friends. I have never smoked and once in a while I enjoy a glass of red wine. Life ain't so bad.

Has anyone suffered from loss of sexual function after taking Bisoprolol as this is listed as a possible side effect ?
