Bisoprolol side effects

Just wondered if anyone knows how long the side effects of breathlessness and tight chest last while taking Busoprolol 1.25 mg. Will they subside or wear off ... have been taking it for nearly four weeks.

    Hi there,

I've been taking 7.5mg for 4 years and haven't experienced tight chest or breathlessness... Might you be having a panic attack? If you have had this for 4 weeks, I would try to calm down and relax. If you haven't and its fairly sudden, I would call the doctor to make sure all is ok.

I hope you're feeling better soon.

    Hi Sue,

go back to your GP about your symptoms/side effects. Most complaints about Bisoprolol refers to the zombie-like menatal and physical state it can induce.

It stopped my Afib alright, but reduced quality of life very dramatically.

    Check out those symptoms again...

    Best...

I went back on 1.25mg ten days ago and while not breathless have tight chest and feel on the brink of being breathless and it feels as if my engine (heart) is lacking power.

Thanks Derek for your reply ... Sounds exactly the same. I wonder how long it will last or if it will actually wear off! Some days it is worse than others. At least the sleep has settled down now after nearly four weeks!

This is the third time I have been prescribed bisoprolol. The first time was a higher dose after heart surgery when I was on a myriad of drugs and could not pin any of my many symptoms to one drug.

When prescribed it again when waiting for a second cardioversion I had a similar reaction and also sweating when walking quite short distances. It was difficult to decide if it was because of AF or the drug.

Now the same is happening again. My GP said that Losartan can cause sweating but as I have taken it for 14 years I ruled that out.

Seems such a fine balancing act getting the right meds. First one I had was Amlodipine ... had to stop it after two weeks because of chest tightness and pain. In the meantime it affects my quality of life .. get tired easily etc. oh well I suppose i have to persist.

Amlodipine with Atenolol was my first one. After a month I was pleading to come off them.

It is very much trial and error. You need a patient doctor who listens.

I've tried my Losartan in the morning while taking Bisop at night and my BP dropped from 168/99 69 to 119/76 by lunch time and then lower.

Today I changed to the Bisop in the morning and my BP dropped from 189//95 71 to 113/77 78 by noon.

Does it make no difference or is it just me?

My cardiologist started me on bisoprolol  in January along with amioderone .I tolerated it only for three days, then was taken off it by my GP. I could hardly walk across the road and could hardly breathe. He explained that it suppresses adrenaline which slows the heart rate but affects energy levels . Also I am slightly asthmatic so beta blockers are not a good idea. Interestingly, when Iwent for a second opinion and saw a new specialist he put me on digoxin with the amioderone. Interesting also is the dramatic worsening of my Psoriasis which the hospital dermatologist blames on those 3 days on the Bisopropil . I actually think it is more likely that the Amioderone is to blame.

With Amiodarone I staggered around as it affected my equilibrium. In the shower I had to balance with one hand on the wall and wash with the other. I had to give up cooking as the kitchen became a dangerous place.
