Bisoprolol withdrawal

I am withdrawing for bisoprolol and have now reduced down to .55mg but for the last few days I have been experience prolonged palpitations. Has anyone else found this has happened on withdrawing bisoprolol.
I have now been withdrawing this awful drug for 7 months with numerous withdrawal symptoms and on one occasion palpitations for about 24 hours but they then stopped but this time they are very tiring.
Hope to hear from someone out there.

Hello Nanny,
I don't know if you're still active on here but I hope you are. I'm 25 and currently going through withdrawal from Bisoprolol that I was placed on for sinus tachycardia. I was on it for 7 months, the last 2 of those weaning down to chips of tablets. The past 30 days I have been completely off them. I am still suffering with awful side effects - palpitations, difficultly swallowing, muscle spasms, insomnia, nausea, breathlessness. When did you see a real turning point in your withdrawal journey in terms of symptoms? I'm trying to keep holding on and stay hopeful that this will get better but right now it feels like a very long tunnel with no light at the end, I'm really at my wit's end. Every day is different but equally awful.
Hope you're well.

Hi Rebecca47026
So sorry you are still suffering withdrawal, yes I had all those withdrawal and more for about 6 months after stopping bisoprolol but they do very slow slowly get better but some days are worse than others.
I have now been off biso for about 18 months and my worse withdrawal was the palpitations and breathlessness but you will eventually feel like your normal self.
I am still taking magnesium citrate at night and while my palpitation were bad (about 12000 a day) I was taking 1gm of taurine which helped to calm them. I still have bad prolonged episodes of palps up to two months at a time but I am getting longer periods when I probably only have 20 or 30 a day.
Doctors are not interested and say the side effects go away in a couple of weeks but they havent been on them so go only by what the manufacturer tells them and not very sympathetic with us.
If I can help in any other way or just want a chat I will be here for you

Hi Catherine70629
I am so sorry you are suffering so much I know the hell you must be going through but please try to keep reducing no matter how little you reduce each time. My reduction of bisoprolol was sometimes as little as .01 every five or six days and if the withdrawal symptoms were bad I used to stop on that dosage until I had a reasonable couple of days before dropping again. The problem when reducing is that when you get to the small dose you are now taking you can never know just how much active medication there is in it or if it is just the filler compound of the tablet. I got so that I usually realised very quickly when there was little or no active ingredient in the tiny piece I was taking because the withdrawal symptoms were worse.
Please try and stick with your withdrawing as you will get there but you may still have withdrawal symptoms on and off for several months after you have stopped atenolol altogether but it will get easier and better.
The other thing I found was if I was given different manufacturers of my bisoprolol that withdrawal was worse so I requested with the pharmacy for the same manufacturer every time and this did really help.
If I can reassure you any further that you will definitely feel your normal self again or help in any other way just let me know.
keep up the good work

thanks so much fir your compassionate and thoughtful reply. i understand what you are saying about active ingredient. For this reason I am getting compounded capsules. im hoping that these are more accurate than trying to cut pills. I am struggling badly. I am so incapacitated that continuing the taper right now is not possible. I have to stabilize more. however it seems to be taking a very long time. I last cut seven weeks ago (7.15mg to 4mg which us a 44% cut). A doctor told me that at the low levels I should use % cuts. My nervous system is a complete shambles. Am I able to speak to you on the phone?

Hi Nanny,
Thank you for your lovely response - it's so reassuring that others have been through something similar. I've now been off Biso for 11 weeks but am still having issues with breathing (like my lungs won't automatically breathe normally), muscle tremors, palpitations/chest pressure and tiredness. I almost feel like I've developed chronic fatigue syndrome!
How long did breathing issues last for you? This and the muscle tremors are what affect me the most. My whole body jerks with the tremors and I've even pulled muscles in my neck from them - currently sitting with a hot pack pressed to it.
You're so right, these doctors go by the 'literature' and not real life experiences of patients - and they've never been through it so don't care to know. I can't tell you how many times I've been fobbed off with 'hysteria' and 'hypochondria'. So belittling.
Hoping soon for a light at the end of the tunnel but hearing that you are doing much better gives me hope.

Hi Rebecca , I hope that you are Good
I don't want to scare you but this is the truth
I was in Bisoprolol just two months I was taking 10 mg ,Because my blood pressure is a little high, and it was the worst day of my life. I became like an old man. My body shivering, cold feet, dizziness, dizziness and ringing in the ears. I stopped taking it only after two months of using it. Loss of energy most of the time, foggy head and dizziness sometimes I feel better, but the adrenaline in our bodies is rushing with force. I give up and I have no solution but to take vitamins. I do not want to be negative, but I am afraid that it will not come out of my body. I am 39 years old, I admit that the tinnitus with time has improved, I just feel With a band in the ear, but ringing in the ears.Coolness in the body, especially in the legs Note: Do not ask the doctor, because it will worsen your condition. Do not use any medication. Pregnancy and time will end this despicable drug that caused me anxiety and incomprehensible fear
Note : I haven't taken medication for 20 months and still a lot of withdrawal

Have any of you experienced long-term withdrawal effects from Bisprol? For example, strings in the eyes when I look forward. I feel like there are spider-shaped strings while looking with fluttering of the eyelashes.
