Bit fed up..

Hi Guys,

I am bit bit fed up at the moment...I had my yearly lung check with the nurse at the docs on Thurs. My fev has shot down from 53% when I first was diagnosed (11/02/09) and 48%in June to 41%

I was really disapointed - I have not smoked since the day I was diagnosed. I don't exercise a lot but I do take the 4 flights of stairs to my office 2-3 times daily and was feeling relatively fit. I have lost 10lbs since June as well just eating better and less. What on earth is going on?!

I was a bit upset and the doctor tried to reassure me this was not as bad as it looked but even so..I have an X-ray to go to at hospital tomorrow (the first one ever) and after that he is going to see me straight after christmas to discuss the results. My heart rate and oxygen levels were Ok.

I am ashamed to say I went right over the top on Sat and drank so much bloody alchohol at a party I have had to skip work today

Sorry guys I will get back on top tomorrrow - I have a days holiday :D

    Hiya Flossie1

Okay, your FEV1 dropped, but that is to be expected over time, and sometimes a drop at this time of year is due to not feeling well for other reasons, eg a chest infection or just a nasty cold. Please stay positive! Doing without the cigarettes will have prevented a sharper drop you know. So, many, many congratulations for staying smoke free. When I did the pulmonary rehab class my FEV1 actually increased a bit. So more exercise could be a good thing. The stairs are a good start but only concentrate on one set of muscles, you need some exercise for the rest of you too. Why not join Vanessa's exercise class with us each day? If you cannot manage 10:30 we will allow a lunchtime session. (I know, I am better at giving advice than taking it).

As for the alcohol, naughty girl. I am not going to share with anyone how much I drank over the weekend!

    Hi

Yes exercise is a must really! I hate it sooooo much too :-)

Not sure if I can join the exercise sessions - I work full time and commute to London every day (when I am not hungover of course  ). Please keep posting them though.

I am inspired , maybe if I post what I have done re exercise on here it will encourage me. Tai Chi may be an idea too if I can find a class.

I meditate once a week with a group I have met in London, I should do it at home too. I know it is not exercise but it really helps with stress and just makes me feel more positve.

Thanks so much for you reply - I feel better already

    Hi again,

I think you do really well. Meditation is a lovely way to de-stress. You know, the exercise I do is extremely gentle and does not take long (because I get out of breath so quick). But even doing a few minutes helps. So - no excuses - keep the stairs for your legs and introduce something for your arms. If you don't have weights use a tin of beans in each hand and just do simple arm bends from knee to shoulder whilst watching tv or listening to music. This, alongside cleaning windows, uses most arm muscles! Be creative and let us know how you get on. (You may find having to 'fess up helps you do a little more). Good luck.
