Black flashes in peripheral vision of right eye

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hi,

I'm a 17 year old girl. I'm pretty certain (like 98%) I'm fairly nearsighted but I've never gotten an official eye exam to confirm it. A couple of days ago, after being outside and then returning inside, I started having black flashes in the peripheral vision of my right eye. They last for less than one second, and I don't have blurry vision or any other kind of vision loss symptoms. The flashes do not happen that often, maybe like 10-12 times a day. My eye does kind of feel dry and I feel kind of like a pressure behind my eye. It feels like it's not as frequent during the day or when I'm with people, strangely. I don't know what could have caused this. I have a significant amount of health anxiety surrounding this and am very worried. What could this be?

    Hi Katss

I would get any flashes checked even if they are just occasional. I had bright flashes over Christmas and they told me to have them checked out the next day.

They have settled down now but the optician needed to check and make sure that the retina wasn't damaged.

I hope you can at least speak to someone on the phone. They will decide whether you need to be seen or not.

I know you must feel very worried but it's better to get answers soon even if only to put your mind at rest.

Please keep us posted if you can😊

Hi katss! I agree with Rhonda. It's time for you to get an eye exam. Depending on what State you're in there should be places where you can get an appointment set-up fairly quickly. I'm in Michigan with one of the toughest shut-downs and opticals just re-opened and have many safe protocols in place. Check out a few places online, there are a number of good opticians that have decent pricing. Take care and do let us know how things turn out. We care and your post will help others with similar issues who visit here.

Hi, just thought I'd post an update here. I never saw an eye doctor about the flashes and they went away by themselves after a few weeks. My vision is still normal. Strange but glad it's gone πŸ˜ƒ

If it is consistent then its something to worry about i think you should repair your eyes but exposing yourself to less light until your eyes are better, its also good to try eye drops in a daily routine.
