Bladder Cancer

Yes, I did post this a couple of weeks ago but have listed it again as maybe with all the Christmas activities readers have not been online to read the latest discussions . After having a cancerous tumour removed from my bladder I was given BCG Treatment which I understand is usual for this cancer. Right from the first instillation I had severe cystitis but was told it would ease - it did not and when I had finished the treatment the Urologist said he would prescribe instillations of cystitat to repair the bladder - I had 6 of these and still the pain was 24/7 and unbearable. I had a cystoscopy last week and was told there was another tumour and it had to be removed BUT not until the Urologist could figure out how to rid my bladder of the severe inflammation - he said it looked like Hell's Kitchen. Has anyone had this reaction to BCG and Cystitat? I am sure I am not the only one and surely there is some other treatment that can be given after the operation instead of BCG. I hope this time I get some replies - please.

Have you been given Elmiron? Pentosan Polysulphate. That seems to be the usual drug but sorry,I dont know anymore than that. I have just been reading about it. Try Googling it for more info. Try suggesting it to your consultant.

You sound as though you are going through a very rough time. I hope you find something to relieve this soon.

Hi Marina, no none of the things you mention have been prescribed. The latest I heard was that my Urologist was going to have a meeting with his colleagues to see what they can come up with to relieve the inflammation in the bladder before they can attempt to operate. When I had my cystoscopy he said my bladder looked like Hells Kitchen it was so badly inflammed,
