bladder/clear urine

I'm down to 7 mg Prednisone, as mentioned before, Rheumy also put me on Plaquenil.  Several weeks later I noticed my urine is very clear.  I mentioned to doctors but they just say that's good, you are hydrated.  Well, I know I'm not drinking more water than usual!  Still difficult to get those 8 glasses in.

Then lately I feel urgent need to pee/urinate.  I feared PRED induced diabeties.  But blood test sugars ok.

i saw Eileen said in recent post some people do have bladder issues with PMR or Pred.  I was wondering if others experience were like mine or different.

my other fear is Pred IS atrophying my muscles, so I wondered if it is relaxing bladder and bowel muscles...I did have a strange bowel issue the other day that I've never experienced!  I've been doing Kagel (is that spelling?)  exercises a bit now!! wink

There's a difference between cloudy urine and pale coloured urine. Urine should really be clear most of the time.

Urgency is common in people with PMR - and urination problems with diabetes tend to be passing vast quantities of urine as the body tries to wash out the excess sugar so you want to drink a lot as you are thirsty (so no problems getting inthe 8 a day) and then need to pee, especially at night. Bowel - yes I seem to remember, if I needed to go I needed to go!

If pred is going to atrophy your muscles you will notice your legs getting thinner. Don't worry too much - I know, easier said than done!

Yes clear not cloudy. And I forgot to mention it was hot, not burning like an infection, but that subsided.

yes...my legs (quadriceps) haven't been this skinny since my last marathon I ran 7 years ago! And my arms too. Even "losing" my belly fat, whoda thought!? Hard to complain about that HUH? wink

      I won't worry then...  Thanks!!!!

Is that fat or muscle that's gone though? And the typical Cushingoid patients is described as a lemon with sticks for arms and legs!

Marathon to raise funds for PMR next year then? No, I'll revise that - half marathon, don't run before you can walk...

It happened to me too, skinny legs and arms.  I don't mind skinny legs, but my arms look a bit too skinny and wrinkly (sp.)  Belly fat is less as well --- no complains here! :-)

Thank you for bringing up bladder issues! I thought I noticed a different odor since on Prednisone, but cant be sure. Sometimes I too feel the urgent need to pee. What is Plaque il for?

Plaquinel is to treat RA, rheumatoid arthritis.  I'm guessing my Rheumy is either experimenting with my pains, or as I decrease my Prednisone she may think I'll need to keep going on this, I believe it's another anti inflammatory type action.

It is for RA and not for PMR.  I used to take Plaquenil for mild RA for a number of years, but then I was diagnosed with PMR a year ago.  I don't feel I should be taking it anymore as prednisone helps with both flares, and plaquenil can be tough on your eyes.

Did your Rheumy say you have RA?

Plaquenil is used as a disease modifier in lupus and often reduces the amount of pred these patients need. I come across a lot of rheumies who keep trying any drug they use as a "steroid sparer" in other illnesses in PMR despite the fact there have been no trials and - to my knowledge at least - they aren't approved for use in PMR.

I suppose that, like methotrexate and azathioprine, there have been patients for whom they worked after a diagnosis of PMR - but there has been no proof as to whether that patient really had PMR or whether they actually had the early stages of LORA (late or elderly onset RA). If only there were a definitive test for PMR...

Very interesting, thank you! She wanted to put me on the Methotrexate, but since I was drinking wine daily and my liver levels were elevated, she said Plaquenil instead.

With My Bowen work and will start restorative and intuitive work with the Bowen gal, I'm not sure how I will tell if pains are subsiding... Is it the drug or the de stressing??? Darn it. Bowen gal showing me how ultrasensitive I am and how taking on so many potentially negative things in my life has potentially caused my chronic pains. I am one of those who takes on everyone else's feelings...thought it was my way of being compassionate...but I don't know how to detach myself.  My entire body tenses up... She is really opening my eyes to me!!! I can see how years of me trying to control life may have overloaded my central nervous system.

interesting stuff!! I mentioned before, my last two years have been extremely stressful dealing with others health and my crazy father's stupidity, (84 year old involved with 44 year old drug addict who's minor son burned his house down almost killing my father). So... Worth a try to work with my Bowen gal ugh?! wink

i drive almost 2 hours to see her!
