Bladder Discomfort

Dear All,
I am 35 yers old male, healthy otherwise with no medication or any other condition.
I am having this issue since last 2 - 3 months and it is making me loose my sleep. My very first time symptoms were that I was having pain and lot of discomfort in my bladder. No burning sensation while urinating but I noticed that when the bladder was full, I had more discomfort and at times would feel that I have not emptied my self fully (i.e. not fully satisfied). This condition stayed for 2 - 3 weeks so finally I went to GP who thought it could be a UTI although urine tests were all normal (i.e. no UTI). They gave me antibiotics and that seemed to clear it off. After about 2 - 3 weeks from this episode, I had a similar one again although this time it was not that severe. GP did some blood tests but all normal. Did Ultrasound of Urinary tract and Testicles but all normal. However I seem to get this very often now.
I have been noting down the symptoms and it looks like I now have to go to pee atleast once in the middle of night every day. Earlier it was not every night but only occasionally when I had lot of fluid intake before sleeping. Now it wakes me up with lot of discomfort in the bladder area. Generally whenever my bladder is full, it does create me discomfort, kind of numb pain and kind of burning sensation. I can’t describe the feelings but it is somewhere between pain, discomfort and burning sensation. Note that there is no burning sensation when I urinate, only when the bladder is full. When I urinate, i feel comfortable afterwards until the next time when bladder is full. To help me with this, I simply go to pee every few hours ( 2 - 3 ) so I never let my bladder become full. This helps me a lot but not at night time as after sleeping, i always wake up with a full bladder and discomfort middle of night.
I am awaiting another appointment from GP but I am really worried if it could be something serious like a cancer developing ? Or would that have been picked up during blood test and this could something less serious ?

If there's no blood in your urine, that's a good sign. But if cancer worries you, ask your GP to do a Cytology test on your urine. This test detects cancer cells anywhere in the urinary tract beginning with the kidneys down to the end of urethra.
My bladder cancer was detected this way and it was still early stage, removed successfuly and after 3 years BCG maintenance treatment, back to normal.
If not happy with your GP, ask him to refer you to a urologist.
Best of luck.

Thanks. Very helpful. I am happy for you that you have recovered fully. I wish there is nothing like that for me.
The GP did sent my urine first time for checking but I don't know if cytology test was done. Would the blood test they did won't detect cancer ?They told me it was all normal.

Regular urine test will only look for blood in the water and check for UTIs.
Cytology is a very specific test and is
not done on a regular basis.
I reckon this test should be done with any bladder problems, it certainly saved my day.

Sounds like me only I'm female and just turned 37! I did originally have a UTI and was given antibiotics that didn't work then another course that didn't work the finally round 3 semi worked...although I still had symptoms of a UTI but no UTI came up when sampled...since then I've had the same sort of discomfort you speak of and it's been on and off for around 6-8 weeks now. The doctor prescribed me some blue tablets called Oxybutynin or something for bladder spasms which took about a week to work but they were great once they started doing their thing, I stopped taking them because I felt "normal" again. Then after about a week I got the symptoms of discomfort and bladder fullness again. I took the little blue pill and it felt a bit better. Surely I can't live on them. I guess it will be another trip to the doctors again so they can send me back home with more meds instead of finding our exactly what is going on?!! Let me know how you get on! I do find that when my diet isn't as healthy as it should be my symptoms get worse...I often wonder if the bowel presses on the bladder and aggravates it? I find cleaning up my diet and getting plenty of raw fruit and veges help

Hi,
So I got my Urine Cytology done (privately) and got the results. They negative.
MICROSCOPIC DESCRIPTION:
The Cytological preparation contains a few benign regional epithelial
cells.No significant inflammatory cells.
No malignant cells seen here.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
URINE: Scanty cellularity; no malignant cells seen.
The symptoms are still there but they are less intense. I do get occassional numb pain but when I change position or walk etc, I sort of goes away.
However, one thing that I notice quiet regularly is that when my bladder is full, I do still get some discomfort, and then when I urinate, I feel that I haven't emptied fully. It is a steady flow to start with and then towards the end it becomes like very weak flow and stops. I have to then try very hard by either moving around etc and then try again to bring out the rest (not so big quantity but say 10 - 12 drops). This makes me feel comfortable and very satisfied.
I am wondering why that could be happening. Is this retention which is causing the pain or the pain and discomfort is caused by retention.
Any advise would help.

Glad to hear your cytology test came back negative.
After three years I have finished my bladder cancer treatment and had a cystoscopy yesterday - all clear. As I don't get an urge to wee even with a full bladder, I only get about 200ml out naturally and a further 800ml with an intermittant catheter. I have to cathterise 3 times a day to empty my bladder otherwise stagnant urine inside can go bad and cause infection. I am 72 and very healthy but my bladder seems to have lost it's elasticity. You could ask your GP for a refferal to a urologist who would do a Urodynamic test to check your flow.

I am due to see my GP shortly. I will request a refferal and take it from there. I am happy that you had your Cystoscopy all clear.
