Bladder issues at night only

Hi. I'm 46 and in peri-menopause or perhaps menopause. I haven't had my period in about 5 months and have hot flashes. My hot flashes subside when I abstain from sugar. But my question is, do any of you ladies get a tingling sensation at night while sleeping. The sensation radiates from my bladder and it feels like an electric current. It's only present at night when I have a full bladder. I get up, relieve myself, then the sensation goes away. the doctors look at me like I'm crazy when I try to describe the symptoms. It's not painful, just uncomfortable. I'm so tired sometimes that I try to fall back asleep instead of heading to the bathroom, but the sensation is so strange and uncomfortable it pushes me to get up and relieve myself. It never happens in the daytime. I can hold my urine for long periods without this sensation. So strange. I would love some feedback around this issue.

Yes... it almost feels like the onset of a bladder infection but more tingly... once you relieve yourself it's gone. It's even worse when my cat decides to sit on my bladder when I'm sleeping! LOL

This sounds like a bladder spasm. I get them sometimes but I have had bladder surgery. You can get a medication to stop it but it has pretty strong side effects I find if I take a couple of ural it can settle the spasms down for a few weeks.

Hi,  Had this problem for years, then started having a problem getting to the loo in time. I went to doc, then specialist at hospital who prescribed oxybutinin.  This stops the spasms you get that make you want a pee. It does have bad side effects and some can't tollerate them, (Nausea being really bad) but these do wear off. Depends how bad your problem is.  I have lichen schlerosis, an auto immune disorder, which means I have to keep ultra clean and wearing incontinence pads is a problem. Good luck whatever you do. Nothing worse than lying awake because you need a wee but are so tired you can't be bothered to get up.  Sounds rediculous but that is how I got after years of suffering. Finally you get up and go but a couple of hours later you go through the same process. Yuk!!!!

I recently have started to experience this exact same thing! You have described it perfectly. I'd like to know if you have found out the cause or a diagnosis?

I have had this very same issue only at night. The pain is sharp and sensitive to pressure. When I roll over onto my belly or side, it hurts. Has anyone been able to find a solution to this problem? Does anyone know what causes this to happen? Am I to assume that this is life after 40? I pray not!

I’ve finally googled this problem and found this thread.  It’s so fricking annoying!! I’m lying in bed and as I’m falling asleep and my body is relaxing the tingling starts. I move and squeeze the kegels and it goes away for a few seconds but as soon as I relax again the tingling comes back.  I HAVE to get up and go pee yet only pee a tiny bit.  However it relives the tingling and I’m good for the rest of the night.  Like every time I have a uti I sit here for 10 minutes to relieve the urgency long enough to fall asleep.

I’m typing this as I’m sitting on the toilet because once again I have a stupid UTI. I’ve been taking cystex like it’s candy. (Not really but you KWIM).

This only happens when I have uti like symptoms. A regular pee test at the dr comes up negative but a clean catch come up with a small amount of white blood cells.

I did some research last year and I found out artificial sweeteners can cause bladder infections and irritation and uti like symptoms.  I went off Splenda cold turkey and have been fine since. (I also got cipro from the dr).  I started using it again but this time only one a day and I’m right back to where I was 8 months ago.  So I guess I’m done with splenda for the rest of my life.  :-/.

FWIW, I don’t think this has anything to do with menopause.  I’ve been in menopause for 4 years now.  I’ve been using Splenda for almost 10 years and until 8 months ago I was up to 3-5/day.  I think it built up in my system too much.

    I wish I didn’t have a sweet tooth. :-/.

And now I feel fine after sitting on the toilet for 5 minutes.  Go figure.
