Bladder neck stenosis vs prostate treatments

Posted , 6 users are following.

I was diagnosed with bladder neck stenosis and a slightly enlarged prostate.  My main symptom is frequent, very frequent urination.

My urol recommended a bladder neck incision or URETHROTOMY.

In researching this subject all I can find are various prostate oriented treatments for frequent urination: turp, PAE, urolift, etc.

But no patient discussions about bladder neck incision or URETHROTOMY.

Can anyone clarify this for me?

I can't comment entirely on this, but I just had the ITind procedure done, and that supposedly makes bladder neck incisions as well as cutting/opening up the prostate. Just something else for you to research.

    Good luck

Motoman, how are you feeling?  I hope everything went well for you.

I checked into the ITind with Dr. Humphries at Mayo in Arizona.  He said holep hollows out prostate, doesnt seem like it would work on bladder neck.

Thats as far as I got into Itind.

They don't offer ITind in the states yet. Holep is different if you didn't know. My Dr thought ITind would be a good choice because it makes the bladder neck incisions. But maybe not as good as some other procedure. I have read here or somewhere about people getting the bladder neck incision.

Has he offered you to try pharmaceutical alternatives to relax your bladder neck muscles. You should know that a bladder neck incision can result in retrograde (dry) orgasms. This bothers some men and not others. The drug Flomax can simulate a dry orgasm as sort of a preview. CIC (self catheriztion) is another alternative which would give you time to explore other current options or wait for newer procedures down the road.

Hi Jimjames,  Yeah, I'm on Flomax while I figure out what I want to do.

      I appreciate your thoughts.

If they do the bladder neck incision you will have retro if it works you may pee better. And the other urethrotomy is to cut away a stricture Do you have a stricture.  Better check with the doctor and get all the information you can.  If they do anything with the bladder neck you will have a retro orgasm for the rest of your life.  There has to be something else the urologist can do  Ken

I assume his diagnosis was based on a cystogram or 3T MRI? If not, I'd be going elsewhere.

I could tell you it was a bladder calcification ... but without the evidence I might as well be using a crystal ball.

Thanks for the clarification on urethrotomy.   I'm living in a spanish speaking country, talking to my urologist through a translator.  Then going on the internet to try to understand my situation and my options better.

Doctors here seem to be pretty good but if I want a new type of treatment I'll probably have to go to the US.

I had a cystogram done by a prominent urologist and he diagnosed bladder neck stenosis.

I've been reading patient reports on various treatments and from what I've seen so far only the urolift seems usually give good results.

I've connected with a US urol and am sending him info to see if urolift could work for me.
