Hi Ann! Sorry you're in pain. Have you seen a doctor? You may need a longer course of antibiotics or your bladder may still be inflamed from the UTIs. Try a low acid diet, remove spicy foods, caffeine, chocolate, alcohol, soy until after things calm down. Have you tried NSAIDS or any OTC bladder products like Azo or Uricalm? I have interstitial cystitis and Azo is a God-send during a flare. I also follow the diet I mentioned to keep things calm. Pelvic physical therapy might also help (it helped me soooo much, but I have pelvic floor disorder and my hip was out of joint, both of which affected my bladder). Best of luck to you!

thank you for your suggestions. i have made sure i keep diet plain. dr says no more antibiotics, wants the ultrasound and bowel check then urologist want to do rigid cystoscopy with ga. i am really afraid of ga and i have anxiety disorder and its all making me worse. i am in uk and i dont know about Azo if its usa only. how did you find you had ic, was it by cystoscope. urologist says he can do six instillations of med to the bladder, it seems radical. im interested in how your dr approached it

I was diagnosed with IC after having UTI symptoms for more than six weeks without an infection. My urogynecologist also did a bladder scan and a cystoscopy. In addition to what I advised earlier, I also take a medication called Elmiron (the only one actually developed for IC) three times a day and that's helped a lot too. Azo is just a brand name for phenazopyridine hydrochloride, so I hope you can find a brand in the UK or online. Anxiety tends to go hand in hand with IC flares, so try to do what you can to reduce your anxiety (easier said than done, I know). Deep breathing techniques, yoga, meditation, medication, walks, whatever works for you. I know it probably seems like you'll never feel normal again, but you will feel better in time and find your own coping strategies for this. There are lots of people out there with this disorder and we all have different ways of dealing with it.
