Bladder/urine problems connected?

I went in for a operation on my nose 10 weeks ago after I broke my nose. I was then unable to pass urine so had to have a catheter fitted. I then had s trail without 3 weeks later still unable to pass urine. 10 weeks on and I'm still waiting to get my catheter sorted! I had an ultrasound yesterday and just awaiting the results.

I have suffered with IBS for a few years now but since my operation my bowels have been unproductive. I had to have 2 enamas this week after I hadn't had movement for over a week. I had been on Senna tablets and laxido and still nothing helped!

I went back to my doctors today and she said it may all be linked to what caused my urine retention? Or that my bladder could be putting pressure on my bowel? I was just wondering if anyone else has any experience of this?

I'm really getting fed up of tests and having to make trips to the doctors all the time!

It sounds like your going through a lot, it is frustrating just tests. I have never heard of this, I would get a second opinion, I hope you get your problems sorted.

Thank you for your reply! Yes it is very frustrating! I'm a 20 year old female who loves sport and for the past few months have not been active at all! I have an appointment to see the urology consultant on the 26th of JUNE! To discus the test I had yesterday!

Hi there,  I can relate to what your saying about bowel problems, i had a few operations in the past that slowed everything up. I feel I have got it more in control- I have increased my water intake and fiber and also found accupressure i regularly use to help move things along

Check with your doc first if necessary.

I  have bladder problems, but my problems related to keep having to go-not the other way round. But since my digestion has improved so much, my bladder problems I feel are a lot better.  I try and stay active, but there has been times I have just not felt like doing anything. Ive had bowel problems/ibs for years, and only feel now there is an improvement.

Thank you for your reply! Because of my catheter my water intake is high anyway and I have been increasing my fibre intake. I have managed to go every day now but I have really bad abdominal pain most of the day which becomes worse in different occasions, I guess I just need to put up with it since its probably a side effect and I am going regularly now! I never really had any problems before my surgery but still waiting to see why the surgery has caused all this bother!
