Bladder weakness while having a chest infection

Hi, has anyone experienced Bladder weakness when they have a chest infection? I have moderate copd and don't normally have this problem when I'm well. Probably the coughing putting extra strain on the muscles but would like to know if others suffer with this problem.

Hi I have had this problem a few times, when having chest infection I think it's to do with the force in which we cough and unfortunately I could not stop, I just resorted to Tena till it got better, I am sure it must be a major problem with people, it is embarrasing I know, sorry not been much of a help Sue, . I was diagnosed with COPD in 1999, am now on oxygen but not 24/7 but can still get around.

Just to confirm, this sometimes has nothing to do with child bearing, but yes can be caused or made worse from being pregnant or having children.

From the age of around my late teens/early twenties, I suffered from horrondeous chest infections (being an asthmatic from the age of 7 it makes it worse, every two years I would be hospitalised). When I have a chest infection I cannot feel if I have a full bladder or even half a bladder (of urine), this is obviously very problematic. Since then, every unexpected cough and sneeze I would release urine, by that age I did not have children, I never fell pregnant either. Obviously as a young person, I was embarrassed to go to my GP, however I later found out (after having children) I should be doing "female urinary incontinence exercises" ...however this has not helped my case at all.

It wasn't until I was pregnant, suffering with Hyperemesis Gravidarum all throughout my pregnancies that in the second and third trimesters I would suffer incontinence again, sometimes I would know if I had a full bladder and sometimes I wouldn't. I didn't discover Tena lady or other cheaper brands until I was hospitalised and a nurse gave me some disposable knickers. Now I wear them everyday all day and night; "female urinary incontinence exercises" doesn't work for me and I've realised after reading this thread that I'll have to keep pestering my GP until I'm treated. I just thought I would share my story that it isn't always to do with child bearing.
