Bleeding 4 weeks post op

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hi lovely ladies, I'm now 4 weeks post op and have been doing fab.  Light housework, walking and driving again.  I feel great, but only one thing; I had no bleeding at all post op (a little staining for a few days), but I. The last 4-5 days have started bleeding a bit like a light period.  I have no pain or indication anything is amiss... Is this normal?  I had vaginal, with ovaries left intact. X

Hi Kathy.  I had the same op six weeks ago.  I started bleeding at about ten days.  Had ultrasound scan and had a haematoma which was draining.  Yours maybe that you ve done too much , or the stitches are dissolving and causing a slight bleed.  If it continues I would contact the hospital or your G P for a quick check.  Have you been discharged from follow up?  My consultant wanted to discharge me at four weeks but I wasn t happy due to the bleeding so am being seen again this week at six weeks.

No, I'm seeing consultant for a follow-up in a couple of weeks.  Because I'm not in pain I thought I'd wait. Did you need treatment for the haematoma? X

No treatment .  It s about the size of a golf ball and has been draining for about four weeks now,  nearly completely stopped.  They said if it was a big one they would have to take me back to theatre to put a needle in and drain it.  Hopefully all will be ok now.  Vaginal is certainly the best option.  I had hysterectomy and anterior and posterior repairs.  Was driving at three weeks and have really felt back to normal from the early days, even though I had the haematoma and had to be re admitted for a couple of the days in the second week with an infection.

    Hi Kathy

Your experience almost mirrors mine.  I had a vaginal hysterectomy -brilliant surgeon. No pain, discomfort or bleeding.  I felt so well that I thought I could almost do everything straightaway.  I was careful not to lift anything as that was the only thing the hospital warned me about but at 2 weeks post op I had a very heavy bleed. Got an emergency Dr's appointment and he had a look and said I had a large clot and he couldn't see anything.  Offered to send me to A&E but I didn't want to be poked around any more, and as the bleeding had eased off, decided to go home and rest.  Spent the following day in bed which did the trick and after that everything was OK.  I suspect I just twisted or bent down which started the bleed and as I had no pain I was unaware I had done any damage.  It sounds as if you have done something similar, but as your bleeding is not heavy I wouldn't worry too much.  I am now 8 weeks post op. Went back to work at 6 weeks post op and I'm now completely back to normal.  I was even able to go jogging at 5 weeks.  Best wishes for the remainder of your recovery period - I'm sure you'll be fine.

    Hi Kathy,

Me again, I was told to expect bleeding like a period, which is completely normal, just make sure you are not doing too much.  As long as there is no pain sounds like you are doing very well.

    Love

Girls, you are so reassuring.  Many thanks for your replies.  I feel sooo much better hearing of your experiences and all coming through it well.  This morning it is hardly there at all, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.  Thanks again. xxx
