Bleeding after biopsy. How long?

Posted , 3 users are following.

I had a biopsy ten days ago.  The doctor put in three stitches and wondered about putting in four, but decided everything was OK, so left it at three.  Since then I've been bleeding from the end of the wound where there isn't a stitch.  It's now pale pink spotting more than anything, but I'm really fed up with it as I  have to wear pant liners, even at night.

I saw the doctor again at the beginning of this week and we agreed that to put another stitch in now would probably cause more trauma to the area.  I agreed to let it heal naturally, but am now wondering how long that's going to take.  Has anyone else had bleeding after the biopsy and how long did it last for?

I had a lot of bleeding after my biopsy but they told me it was to be expected.  I found some pads that were plastic-coated and didn't stick and those helped immensely.  I might have had bleeding for 4 weeks or more !!

Thank you Kathy, that's made me feel much better.  I keep expecting it to stop and it seems to be doing that, then starts up again even though it's so ltitle.  However, I'm finding that pant liners are quite enough to cope with it.

Best wishes and I hope that things are OK with you now.

Not using steroid ointment are you?    I'm due to go for an op to sort out some of the scarring and was advised not to use ointment for at least 2 weeks before or after as it will hinder healing.

Thank you, Nelsmydog.  No, I haven't used it for three weeks now.   I stopped using it two weeks before I had the biopsy (I told my GP that I had to do this after reading information on here!).   I did wonder when I can begin to use it again as I'm getting some itching and discomfort now.  I see him again on 9th February for the results and may well print off the information on here about the treatment regime using the Clobaderm.  I've used it twice a day for a month, then once a day for a month, before the biopsy, so I'm not sure what regime I should go back to.
