This forum is great. I'm 11 days post op and am wondering how long it's normal to bleed for?

Hello - what type of surgery did you have? I had a rectocele repair and bled very little - much to my surprise! Really nothing at all. Some discharge as the wound was obviously "weeping" as it healed. But no real bleeding.

It does seem to vary from person to person. I am of the understanding that it's when the blood becomes bright red and "fresh" or flowing that it's a cause for concern. Red period type blodd isn't. But I am no doctor! Others will be along to help too I am sure. If you are orried can you ring the nurse at your GP practice?

Thanks so much for your reply. I had a rectocele repair as well. I talked with the nurse yesterday and she told me about the weeping as well. Looks like really thinned out blood? The flow has increased over the last few days just curious how long it lasts generally for. I thought by 12 days post that would have healed.

Hi, I had considerable bleeding following my anterior repair. I was wearing proper nighttime pads all day. It went on for about 6 weeks and I was worried about it but was told it was all ok by my consultant. It finally turned from red/brown to brown and then a yellow discharge. However, we are all different and if you are worried about it then speak to your GP.

    Good luck.

I had rectocele repair and bled very little , a little more if I overdid things, but I had a mirena coil put in and 2 and a half weeks post surgery I started bleeding and it hasn't stopped yet, but it's more like menstrual blood .

I had anterior repair & mesh sling and bled very little too. Pink & minimal while in hospital for 2 days, then very little or none once home.

Hi Lynn, the hospital told me bleeding anytime from 2 days to many weeks..... my cousin was 6 weeks and I am now 4 weeks and still needing pads.   It's not heavy but it's still there.   If I have done a little more work in the house, I feel it bleeds a little more, so I just take it easy and feet up just to be sure 😊
