Bleeding hemorrhoids that rarely improve, 18 months PP

Hi,
Im a 35 year old female. ive had mild hemorrhoids since my late 20s with occasional bleeding, but not very frequent at all. during pregnancy early last year, they got VERY bad. during labor VERY VERY bad, as the doctors and nurses kept pointing out (so embarrassing!). they improved and i experienced no symptoms really until this May when i think straining made things start up. They are mostly painless, but gross and bleed bright red frequently. once it starts up all it takes is barely pushing to aggravate and cause bleeding. i try to sit in baths when i can (i have a busy life with a toddler). i eat well and exercise but i do have a desk job. my dr has prescribed creams. theyll work temporarily but it never sticks. ive battled low iron recently too so iron supplements arent helping (even though the ones im on are pretty mild on the tummy). my dr finally referrred me to colorectal surgeon in a couple weeks. ive done so much googling and terrified its rectal cancer. i cant stop thinking about it. im looking for support and maybe some advice to keep them from bleeding. is it normal for them to bleed so frequently? if im super diligent, take 2 baths a day, dont strain even a little i may have a few days where it stops, but inevitably ill have a bout again.

Let's try "organic apple cider vinegar with mother"... 2 tablespoon first in the morning followed by big glass of water. Or dilute with honey and water. Hope that works. Good luck.

So sorry you are having a rotten time with these horrible things. I have had piles for a long time with no bleeding but for the past 8 months they have been bleeding not all the time but quite a lot when they do. I have tried everything to try and cure them but no luck. I do find it pays to drink a lot of water and also watch your diet . I also take magnesium as it helps with constipation. Kind regards April

All sounds very familiar. I've just had the Halo op after a few years of the bleeding nightmare.
Stuff I learned about the bleeding prior to the op:
Hope you can get some relief soon. If not, go and talk to your doctor and get your rectal cancer worries put to bed.
Good luck.

Try not to worry too much about it being any type of cancer. I know its horrible to look at but best thing to do is wait for the colorectal surgeon to see you and they can advise whats best. I had a haemorridectomy where they cut mine out. Depending on your haemorrids, they may say to get them removed by laser which is far easier. For now just wear the ladies pads, drinks lots of water and high fibre food. Hope it goes well with the colorectcal doc

I was also worried about rectal cancer a month or so ago, and it was due to too much reading on-line. Rectal cancer is not common. Be sure to read the full list of risk factors before you get too worried. It looks like you have an appt with a colorectal, thats the best approach. I am sorry you are worried. Its easy to say "don't read" to someone else buts hard to follow the same advice yourself!

It sounds like you need this upcoming appointment. It's easy for me to say not to worry about cancer --which I'm still going to say--but it always helps to hear that from a physician and not some rando on the Internet 😉 I am also in my 30s and basically had the same story... hemorrhoids in my early 20s, exacerbated by pregnancy, and I let them go for over a decade in total until surgery was warranted (stage IV, 8 removed).
The bright red blood is reassuring, as it is most likely the hemorrhoids and not gastric. Especially since you can pinpoint precipitating factors (straining and pushing). Your doctor or colorectal surgeon may want to do a colonoscopy to rule out something more serious, if they feel it is needed. My surgeon performed something called a rigid sigmoidoscopy to find other potential sources of bleeding. This was adequate enough to find the definitive source (mutant hemorrhoids) and a colonoscopy was not needed.
It may help save you a twice-a-day bath if you use a peri-bottle to wash up with. Maybe even make it routine to avoid irritating the anal area with dry toilet paper. Every now and then, a sitz bath with Epsom salts will do wonders. The bowl that fits over the toilet is a great investment.
Take a stool softener and drink plenty of water, of course. I hope you get answers soon!

You may wish to read about a Chinese Ointment called Mayinglong Musk on google if it is worthwhile trying. Good luck.

thank you all for your responses! im anxious to get the appt over with. since you all seem to be knowledgable, i was reading about treatments. how would i know if mine are grade 4? would it be obvious? what treatments have you had? theres no way id be able to have a hemorrhoidectomy with a small child. would they even consider that if theyre causing me no pain? i plan on getting pregnant again soon.

Yes just get your appointment done with soon as that will put your mind is at ease. 1st degree ones are just in the anal canal, second go in and out during bowel movements, and third degree do not go back in and have to be pushed back in ie with fingers, this is my understanding of the gradings. If they are not causing you pain the surgeon may consider less trival options and not the haemorridectomy. But honestly best thing is to discuss this in detail with them and also mention you want to get pregnant so they can factor this in.
