Bleeding in my eye for no apparent cause?

I woke up the other day with blurriness in my left eye.  I went to the eye doctor and he said I have blood in my left eye, saying it was retinal hemmorhaging.  He said there was no retinal holes or tears, but he did not know what was causing the bleeding.  He has referred me to another specialist at the Vanderbelt Eye Institute for a second opinion.  Has anyone else ever had anything similar to this?  I am not a diabetic and do not have high blood pressure and thought I was somewhat healthy?

Hi beckysrs, I have bleeding in my eye due to branch retinal vein occlusion. It started off with a small blood clot & now my artery in my eye is sitting on my main vein, so its making the blood unable to go threw like it should, so my retina is swelling do to that & causing blood to leak out of the little veins... I have to get a shot in my eye every month so I won't go blind... I pray that is not your issue...But tell them to check your for BRVO or CRVO..Branch Retinal Vein Occlusion (BRVO) or Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO)... My eye specialist is here in San Antonio...

Hi Charline924,  can you tell me what your first symptoms were that made you think something was wrong?  Did you have shadows or any pain or visual distortions?  Is your bleeding noticeable like pink eye or invisible to the naked eye?  Just asking you these questions so I can see if I might have the same thing that you have.  I  hope I don't either..lol!  My mother had to get shots in her eyes every 6 weeks for wet macular degeneration so she wouldn't go blind.  My eye specialist is in Evansville, Indiana.

      Hi beckysrs

The very first thing I noticed was a blurr spot right about my central vision (distorted)... As for the bleeding I didn't know until the doctor told me I had bleeding in my eye (retina swelling) , I do see blood in my vision sometimes it looks like little dots sometimes looks like webs... As for pain, I did get it a first but I have not had any in a good while...

I had this and was given laser treatment to seal the leaking vein in the retina. That was about 1999. No cause was ever  found,    About two years ago I mentioned it to my optician and she has been the first person to say"Oh yes, thats part of the symptoms for "Thygersons Keratitis" which I have.   Do you have gritty eyes?,thats another symptom of Thygersons.  Its often thought to be dry eye syndrome but can be very bothersome if the right treatment is not found.  You are in good hands at The Vanderbilt, so hopefully you will get sorted out quickly.

Well I went to the Vanderbilt Medical Center.  I was very disappointed there.  It was so crowded.  Apparently, everyone from the surrounding states go there on the same day once a month.  My appointment was at 12:30 pm CST, and did not see the doctor until around 6 pm!  He was very young, and obviously not very experienced in my opinion.  Anyway, he said he thought I had a chroid melanoma, which only happens to 6 people out of million in the US.  I have since done my own research on my computer, and do not think I have all of the symptoms or characteristics for this disease.  I really felt as though we were herded through like cattle and this was an educated guess on his part.  I went back home, which is a two hour drive with my only good eye, and have since scheduled a second opinion with another specialist in my hometown.

As previously stated in my first explanation, I first noticed a blurriness, than shadows, then complete blindness in my left eye except for black and white shadows of my fingers.  It is very scary.  Most of than as explained to me was the bleeding that can be cleared up with a vireatomy (sp), but they will not do this until melanoma is ruled out.  Sorry for the long-winded paragraph, but these doctors have me very frustrated now and I hope my experience tomorrow is encouraging..lol!
