Bleeding on birth control

hello,

I have been on BC pills sense December 2018. I had problems with breakthrough bleeding for several months so I switched to another type. I have been on this new pill for several months now and have had no breakthrough bleeding. However, today was my last day of my active pills for this month and tonight I noticed a very very small amount of brown discharge(a bit of old dried blood that i get before my periods) with some very light pinkish discharge. To be honest, I wouldn't have noticed the light pink discharged of I hadn't had the dark brown discharge because it was very light pink.

Could this be what would have been the beginning of some break through bleeding since I took an active pills today or am I somehow starting my period early?

If my period is somehow early does this mean my birth control is ineffective?
