Bleeding with blood clot after TAH

Posted , 6 users are following.

Hi, I am 12 days post op via TAH without ovaries removal. I had light bleeding and blood clot discharge from vagina starting 2 days ago. Is it normal? How long this bleeding will last? It happens early morning when I wake up only. Need advise from members. Thanks......

Hi there, a bit of bleeding is normal in the first couple of weeks or so, it doesn't happen to everyone though, it is generally pooled blood that is getting expelled, as it didn't happen to me I cant say how long it is likely to last, in any case please speak to either your consultant tomorrow or your GP as a precaution.

      Hi Sue,

I didn't have any bleeding afterwards.I was surprised by this as i thought i would be bleeding heavy for a few days.I was fine even straight after the op.I didn't have much pain either.Hope you will be ok but make sure that you don't over do things.

Teresa, thanks for your words of comfort. I was not bleeding after op but it started on the 8th day post op. Scary though and I called up hospital and gynae onco said it is normal if bleeding is minimal with small clot. Today, I woke up with wet blood panty and with blood clot substantial in size. Will just check myself into ER if it is the same tomorrow morning.....

Hi phoebe, I went back to hospital yesterday and Doctor mentioned nothing to worry as it is normal for some to bleed post op. I am doing okay but started to have internal pulling sensation and sometimes sharp pain near pelvis. Is it normal or am I walking too much? Is it okay to do some kegel exercise now to control bowel? I am still suffering from uncontrollable urine ---- I need to go toilet every one hour to urinate and am not sleeping well. My blood pressure is going up too.

It is normal to feel the pulling sensation, your insides have been pulled in every direction pumped with gas and all sorts, don't go too mad with excersise, you are still early days post op, did you not get any leaflets from the hospital about excersise how much and when to do it? try to relax that will help the bp, I didn't have any problems with my bladder but it took 10 months for my bowels to get back to normal again, I took a senna tablet (just 1) and a spoonful of lactulose each night before bed and that really helped, also if you are constipated it will push your BP up a bit.

There is some very useful info on the hyster sisters website, you could give that a try as well.

    Hi Sue

I had a vaginal hysterectomy last year and because I felt so well with no pain or discomfort I thought I could do more that I really could.  I therefore overdid the house work and I think I twisted when bending down and ended up with a very bad bleed in the afternoon.  I did go the the doctor later that day but by then it had eased off so I just went home, spent the next day in bed and was fine after that.  I recovered really well and was back to running at the end of 6 weeks.

Good luck.  I'm sure you'll be fine

Hi shani, thanks for sharing. I think I may have overdid something as I was well and without any bleeding after op. Bleeding starts on the 9th day, a day after I went back to hosp for my 1st follow up to remove bandage. I may have walked too much or fast. Will rest more these few days and hope things will settle down. I still woke up every half hour to an hour at night for toilet and guess my bowel has yet to settle down post op. Appetite is poor too coupled with tender and slight swell abdominal. Did you encounter any of these symptoms?

      Hi Sue

It sounds like you had an abdominal op which I think takes longer to recover from.  I was so lucky to have a top surgeon carry out my op vaginally and I had no side effects re appetite - just a bit of constipation quickly rectified by Dulcoease.  I'm sure you will benefit by having a rest.  It's very hard if you're normally active.  I used then six weeks off to write my first book!

      Good luck with your recovery

Yes, I had the abdominal op as mine due to cancer. Wow! you are amazing. Salute you for the perseverance you had to complete writing a book while recuperating 👍

Hi sue, try not to worry yourself to much, I bled for 3 weeks after my op, I was worried as it was bright red so I called the hospital they said it was completely normal and to only worry if it became very heavy and you have to change your pads more than once an hour due to saturation.

Hope this helps take care and rest my lovely xx
