Blepharitis: In desperate need of a solution..

Hi my name is Melissa. I was diagnosed with Blepharitis around 6 months ago. It affects my left eye and it is continually making my eye lid droop and my skin around my eye very dry. My eye itself can be very sore and irritable, and red. Other times it can be quiet good, however always dry/droopy eye lid.

My current routine:

Each day morning and night I was my lashes and lids with a foam called Sterilid as reccomended by a specialist.

I do hot compresses several times a day (probably 10 - 15 minutes worth)

I dont wear eye liner, I remove make up each night before bed and wash around my eyes.

I take Krill Oil tablets each day (3000mg)

I use artifical tears several times a day (Systane)

And am currently on Doxy-50mg that my doctor put me on.

HOWEVER, none of this really helps (or seems to anyway). What I want to do is find a way to cure Blepharitis or at least make the puffy/droopy eye lid go away as it looks TERRIBLE and unfortunately my appearance is a big part of my job...

Can someone recommend how they have overcome their Blepharitis, or how they eliminated puffy and droopy eye lids?

I am so grateful for all the help I recieve!

Melissa

Hello, I too was diagnosed wih blepharitis several years back, I found the only thing that relieves it is to shower every day using Capsiculum shampoo (not sure of the name but it is coal tar based and used for the treatment of sebborheic dermatitis), I also take doxycycline.  If I miss just one shower i will begin to show the symptoms of blepharitis.

Hi David, I will have to try and find some Capsiculum shampoo over here in Australia, and give that a go as well. Thank you.

I have had great sucdcess after using the Wet Ones antibacterial wipes. Wipe at the base of the lashes.  I started 3 times a day for 3 months and then went down to 2 times a day for a month. Now I just use them when my eye is irritated or itching.  Lynda on this site is the one who discovered this and I am eternally grateful to her. I have battled this for 20 years and this has been the solution!!!  Good Luck...hope it works as well for you.

Just your every day general wet ones? is their a specific brand?

I will give this a go. Do you do it with anything else or just that? no hot compress/tablets etc?

I do still apply hot compresses in the morning but the WET ONES have been a miracle cure for the itching, redness and and flaking around the base of the lashes.  Good Luck..it works!

Unfortunately, there is NO CURE for Blepharitis, only maintenance  remedies.  I have found as I am sure you have read on this sight that Wet Ones are very good at killing bacteria.  I am in the US and purchase them in a box (red and white( at Walmart. I divide them into 8 or more strips and use one strip for each eyelid-along the upper and lower lash line.  I do not wash it off.  This really helps mine.  I too like you use the Systane Balance drops and have gone to the Systane Ultra which really makes mine feel so much better-It seems there is more lubrication in them. The warm compresses are  good too but didn't seem to help mine. I do not really have the droopy lids but mine are puffy, esp the left one and makes my eyes look so tired  .

No known cure, correct. However i have talked to people who have naturally cured their own, however, every one is different and their cures dont work for all of us unfortunately. I wish they did. I also have Crone's Disease which really impacts and makes this so much worse. I hate it. I will try wet ones and see how i go! I will maintain Systane as well (Ultra i use too sorry)

I think everybody has different forms. One thing I now have is a mild form of Rosacea which the specialist diagnosed.  I go to a Dermatologist once aa year for a check-up and was never diagnosed but I can tell that it is there now and pray it doesn't get rally bad. The physician did say Blepharitis and Rosacea go hand in hand.sad

I have never actually heard of Rosacea. I will have to research it.,

    Hi Melissa

Sorry to hear you too have blepharitis. I've had it for about 10 years now and as has been stated there is no known cure sadly.

Mine comes in peaks and troughs at the moment in having another battle with it. I think it's due to the cold weather here in the UK?

There's loads of different ways to try and control it. I read about the wet ones method on here but sadly for me it doesn't work. It makes my eyes just as bad and causes my eyelids to crack and I get sores on my eye lids then the discharge starts. That's not to say it won't work for you though. If you can get them try the be gentle wet ones in the blue packet. They don't contain any alcohol.

Another thing I have read about it using manuka honey to treat it. I'm going to try this next. If that doesn't work then it'll be back to the antibiotics and hydrocortisone for months and months.

    Good luck with it all

      Hi GroggerLUFC,

Sorry to hear that you have been suffering for so long. I wish they would come up with a cure..

I am about to try the wet ones method, lets see how it goes, Manuka Honey will be my next option too.
