Blepharitis + numbness???

Posted , 2 users are following.

Hi guys,

I had a real bad spell about 2 months ago where I started to develop the little white ulcers/bumps on my eyelid margins. After seeing on this forum the recommendation of using bicarbonate of soda with cooled boiled water, I saw massive improvements and my eyes were feeling great. However, in the past week my left eye has got bad again and I've redeveloped a few bumps which won't go, despite the same treatment. I've also noticed what I can only describe as a little bit of numbness just below the eye around the top of my left checkbone - feels like something nerve related. It only tends to be there when my left eye is feeling the effects of bleph. Has anyone had anything similar to this?

Would be great to know your thoughts!

Adrian

    Hi Adrian,

I know you wrote this quite some time ago, but I just came across it and wondered if you could tell me just what causes these little white bumps you mentioned -- as I am just now developing them.  Would also appreciate knowing how you used soda?

    many thanks, joy

      Hi Joy,

I believe they're caused by blockages in the meibomium glands. Sounds as though the only way to get rid of them is through the heated bag treatment, but mine don't seem to be disappearing, even after so long! I'm seeing my consultant next week so I'll be discussing the small operation that you can have to get the offending glands cleared out, although I know some people don't recommend this.

The soda is a common method of cleaning the lids. I just mix a 1/4 teaspoon of soda in an egg cup of cooled boiled water, dip a cotton wool bud in and run it along the eyelid margins. This initially really helped me, but I think my body got used to it and it doesn't have as much effect anymore!

      Hope that helps!

      Adrian.
