Blepharitis or Dry Eye .

Posted , 2 users are following.

Hi fellow sufferers.

I would like to hear from fellow sufferers if any of your are familiar with the symptoms I am experiencing .

I have uploaded an image and hopefully someone may be able to help .

I do not have itching , styes , chalazions , blurred vision yet I have been told I have Blepharitis.

I am following the recommended regime of warm compress for 10 minutes , followed by light massage of the eyelids , followed by cleaning of the lash baselines with a diluted baby shampoo solution . I have been doing this for the last 6 weeks and really things do not improve .

The symptoms do seem to be worse late in the day around middle part of the evening .

Any help would be appreciated , this is driving me mad .

Hi. I have suffered with this for about 15 years but also never had itching, styes, chalazions or blurred vision.I did the cleaning with dilute baby shampoo but after a while it makes the lids so dry I only did it occasionally. Other sufferers will say the warm compresses can also be drying so dont do them every day. Have never done the massage but I do eyelid exercises to try and stimulate whatever oil there is left in the glands. My "try it and see" regime over the years has now given me fairly good, non dry eyes.At one time my eyes were so bad I developed corneal ulcers but now they are also under control.

You dont mention anything about lubrication?Surely you have been advised to use something on a regular basis?if you dont use anything start with Hypromellose drops, also called Artificial tears. You can get them in most chemists/pharmacy. If you are in UK do have a look at the range of dry eye drops that Boots the chemist stock.

The regime I have found the best for me is eye ointment every night. This tends to last all through the next day. No more cleaning with baby shampoo...too drying. If my eyes get dryish during the day I use Carmize 1% eye drops, which come in little individual doses so you can put a couple in your purse or pocket. I find that a good pair of close fitting polarised glasses helps as you must protect your eyes from draughts, breezes, grit, dust, fans, bright sunlight etc. I have several pairs of cycling glasses which are excellent.

    My eyelid exercises are

1] relax your face and close your eyes

2] squeeze your eyelids together but dont screw your eyes up.

3] open your eyes and rapidly blink your eyes.

4] do this several times per day.

Most sufferers will say that doctors and even ophthalmologists seem to give little help for this condition....it really is try everything and do lots of research. I was lucky enough to see a corneal specialist who put me on the right track. What you are doing at the moment is the usual advice they give but its so drying.Just remember to treat your eyes kindly and dont batter them with all sorts of different things in an attempt to find a cure. You may find a cotton bud dipped in medical grade Vaseline is a better and kinder cleaner than baby shampoo. Especially if you do this before bed. Good luck for the future.

      Hi

Thanks for your reply, I have tried Hylo-Forte , Optive Plus and am now on Blink for the addition of artificial tears none of which seem to be any good.

I will certainly try Hypromellose drops and Carmize , once again thank you for the advice .
