Hi Guys
Have been on celexa since Late October so nearly 3 month now.. before that i spent 6/7 weeks on lexapro with no benefits. I have made steady progress since starting the celexa and the since Dec have been really good and nearly back to normal, but 2 weeks ago i noticed i had 2/3 days off feeling off, low mood maybe, anxious and then i was ok again and now again this week, feel pretty awful today, hot sweats.. I havent had to take a xanex in 6/7 weeks but today feels like one of those days. Is this normal to still have these days ?
I am on 20mg citoplram..
Thanks

Hi thomas, those 7 weeks on escitalopram would have been working even though you didn't feel any benefit, too early in treatment, and that would have added to the time on Citalopram. As for the relapse, setback, blip, whatever you want to call it,they are normal and you could possibly experience them from time to time, but nothing to worry over. People's moods can go down naturally anyway, then you will feel the effects of the medication counteracting that normal drop in mood,or some extra stress in your life that comes to us all.
I' ve been on my current dosage for nearly 5 months and a close friend of mine has passed and I'm understandably stressed and a lot of side effects have returned including dry mouth and stomach problems along with anxiety symptoms. Unfortunately the stresses of life cannot be avoided, and that affects everyone. Good luck.

Hi Thomas, that's exactly how I have been. I've been on 20mg of Cit since end of Aug. From about 12 weeks I've had some really great weeks, then out of the blue every couple of weeks I have a few days of low mood. From the advice I've had on this forum it's pretty normal and all part of recovery. I think it just takes us by surprise and frustrates us after feeling so well!! I'm just going to keep pushing on and hopefully this will all ease in time and plenty of time at that Dx

Thanks for your reply.. Yeah like i want to say i felt 90% back to myself which was unthinkable only maybe 6-8 weeks ago.. I had some great week, and other weeks were also pretty good, today is prob my worst days in months so i had a massive fear , aww no the meds arent working anymore, i might need a increase etc .. But like that i know i will get through this moment like i did before, and hopefully get to where i want to get too..
I hope we both get there 😃

Hey Thomas, unfortunately this is normal in recovery. You will get random bad days in recovery and you will feel like your back to the beginning and all the recovery is wasted. Its normal, youll find it will pass and youll be back to normal soon

Hi.. I have been doing better that what i was back when i posted this, i then got covid 2/3 weeks ago and had a crap week just gone past.. I want to say im at 75% but am struggling to get over that next hill.. I am pretty determined to stay on the 20mg and keep working on other elements such as meditation, exercise etc.
This is my 2nd time taking celexa, and has been so much harder, i am going 5 months on it now, still unsure if i should increase but i don't fancy changing tbh..

Hi thomas, sorry you got Covid,it can cause serious issues with anxiety and depression as people on the Facebook group I'm in on Fluvoxamine can testify to. As far as success rates of antidepressants go,I've taken them all on and off for many years, and if you asked me how much they worked I would say 75%. That's a pretty good improvement on 0%. Average scores on review sites bear this out where all the antidepressants score around mid 7's out of 10,and people I've spoken to. That 75% improvement gives you the building blocks to improve further over time, and circumstances also come into the frame, wether positive or negative. I personally wouldn't increase if you feel you are at 75%,but if you feel like a boost to the medication I suggest magnesium L Threonate. I read it can enhance the effects of antidepressants and I've been slowly increasing since end of November, and it definitely does give a boost because the side effects return which suggests to me it has raised serotonin levels further among other things magnesium does like increasing gabba levels etc. I'm definitely more chilled.😎

so sorry you got covid! i have read so many people say that covid set them back for a few weeks as it takes the whole body to fight off the virus. i hope you get back on track very soon. i am still in the phase of having 1 good week 1 bad week after 3 months and its really getting me down. i know this means i am at the start of recovery and that i need to dig deep with patience. i am determined to stay on the same dose too since it worked for me in the past

Thanks Ian & Yuss88 for you replies.
Ian i have been taking Magnesium Glycinate but maybe i will try Mag L threonate.. I know i tried one of them months ago and gave me the sh*tes a lot lol.. Thanks for the advice Ian and maybe i should be more proud that i feel 75% better and not hard on myself that about the other 25%.
Funny the week when i had covid i did not really have any anxiety it was the following 1/2 weeks which i felt crap.
I think my main anxiety now is the medication in a way.. when i have a crap day i am straight away thinking should i increase, should i change.. this should not be still happening.. I need to work on this..
Yuss88 i read the Dare response which is a great book on how to deal with anxiety, they also have a great app. and could help you a lot on your crap days..

The Magnesium L Threonate does not cause diarrhoea in itself,it only crosses into the brain. Because it enhances the effectiveness of the antidepressant you will probably experience Citalopram side effects and some more anxiety. I have. So it's best to titrate up which you should do with any supplement like 5-htp etc.
As far as achieving a 100% cure rate from anything, I have never found it. After experiencing a nervous breakdown in 2010 and going back to work on 30mg Citalopram,I spent the next 9 years on a mission to find a 100% cure using my brain like an experiment. Took everything I could get my hands on, antidepressants, supplements, combinations of antidepressants and supplements. I can tell you there isn't one. Caused myself another nervous breakdown. Take my word for it,75% is maximum effectiveness, take the tablet, forget about everything involving antidepressants and concentrate your mind on the rest of life and what you want to do,career, hobbies and interests, love life, whatever. That is the other 25%.
