Blip or need to change meds

i have been on 10 since DEC 21. i have been up and down with side effects. The anxiety and depression is a lot bearable but the fatigue, tiredness and now muscle twitches have all come back in full force. I also feel like i am living in a fog. PLEASE someone tell me this is normal and will pass. my doctor wants to switch me to lexapro because she says i should not be still experiencing side effects. I don't think i can take starting a new med again with all the side effects. PLEASE give me some reassurance.

Hi x I haven't had to switch meds I've had to up my citalopram to 40mg for six weeks and I feel terrible still. The higher the dose the harder it will be to switch also the amount of time you have been on them too. So it's good that you are only on 10mg.bear in mind that some people can do a straight switch and be fine and some get bad withdrawal and side effects again. The thing about lexapro is its meant to have less side effects than citalopram because it's a newer version but slightly different chemical structure from what I've heard. You could either very slowly taper off citalopram a tiny bit at a time but this might risk depression coming back temporarily or do a straight switch and put up with side effects maybe. You won't know untill you try. It could well be a blip also but you have to work out whether the side effects is the citalopram or the anxiety and depression. If it's a blip it should pass again. Do you feel well enough to ride it out and see if it passes?

I would listen to Toria over me she definitely knows what she's talking about when it comes to lower meds. She has been really helpful for me 😊

That sounds like a good idea and see how you get on x hopefully it'll pass. Just remember if you are worried or need reassurance and advise until your appointment in 2 weeks just post on here for support. You don't have to go through it alone and someone will always be here to give advise and assurance. So many of us are going through the same or similar so keep on keeping on! X

be aware that low doses are the hardest to get off so do it extremely slowly if thats what you decide

thanks, why is the lower doses so hard to get off? i would have thought it would be easier since you are not using as much. is it normal to still have side effects come back?

Hi Michele, the side effects that you mention is side effects from taking Citalopram and the other medication would give you the same side effects ,so if you changed over medication you would get two lots of side effects.

Some people change to taking it in the evening so they sleep through the side effects. It can cause sleep problems if taken too late for some people but it might be an idea. Just be careful swapping times just because it can be a pain in the ass for some people to do x hopefully somone might have tried it and will be along to give you advice soon x
