I really wonder why drs. do not pay attention when you tell them your stomach is larger and issues with bloat..indigestion...anything related to stomach issues..if so many people expeience this with afib there has to be some correlaton..tired of hearing I should lose weight as no good for the heart. I eat relatively little and still cannot seem to lose weight..obviously something else at work here...

Hi Betty, there is always a link to AFib and the stomach. I had severe bloating and have now been diagnosed with Diverticulitis so on some natural treatment to try and help it now. The Vegus nerve controls the heart and digestive system so if there is a problem with it you get symptoms for both so it follows that many stomach problems and heart problems stem from this nerve that can cause Hyperphagia (eating more) and heart rate, digestive system, speech and many more problems.

I understand your comment  because I have thought the same but I conclude that the doctors just don't know but they just ignore rather than say " I don't know"  sometimes that is better than saying we are depressed or whatever.    Our bodies are misbehaving and I think it must stem from the brain  - ie it is sending out very confusing messages and I also think the vagus nerve has a lot to do with it.

Hi betty, after reading some replies ive been recieving about my afib,& hearing more & more about the vagus nerve, i made myself an app today to see my gp. I suffer terrible bloating & the pain that comes with it, if i could stay how i look when i first wake up id be a happy man,but by the evening its a totally different story. I notice that i get paplitations mainly at night & always after my evening meal, armed with the info i have been recieving, i questioned this to my gp. To be honest at first he seemed a little took back when i mentioned the vagus nerve, but after my description of symptoms he did admit that it seemed less likely to be my AF acting up  & more likely it could be the vagus nerve, frustratingly he didnt want to push for this & just prescibed some more Ranitidine (everytime i see them about my severe bloating they prescibe this, maybe one day it might work...)I have an app in july with Gastrology,so i will be doing a lot of home work & be prepared when i go with many questions.

I Just think there must be some relationship to the afib. I read that waist spread and weight is very bad for the heart. Also the bloating seems right under the heart When it happens to me I could be nine months pregnant.. lol...not at my age...I find it scary as I do now know whence it ocmes from. i have been mostly thin in my life so very upsetting . I have a wedding to go to and tried on some possible outfits and bloat got in the way. I subsides but I never know when it will return..Maybe vagus nerve. I should go to a gastro.....So tired of doctor visits.

Hi Betty. I can relate fully to your comment. I too have always been slim, but since PAF, have put on over 2.5 st in the past 2 yrs. And yes, seem to blow up like a balloon by evening. I agree, its very distressing as no matter how little i eat, on go the pounds. Ive recently been researching whether Rivaroxaban might be a contributor to weight gain, and that appears likely too.

Yes I think these meds have to do with weight gain and fat cells. A doctor toldme once you have these fat cells they are very hard to shrink..I remember years ago seeing my stomach get larger and it has continued to along with the fat cells hard to get rid of.

    Hi Betty,

I have read your post with interest. I was having the same problem a few months ago. The bra I put on in the morning which felt comfortable, by the evening was cutting into me because of abdomen bloating.

I decided to try a gluten free diet and gradually it has worked. I no longer get bloating, I have lost a little weight and I feel comfortable.

    Hi Betty,

Sorry if my message appears twice, but the first one has disappeared into the wide blue yonder!

Basically, I had the same bloating problem, by evening I was extremely uncomfortable. So I tried a gluten free diet and it has worked, bloating gone a little weight loss and comfortable evenings.
