Bloating and Weight

Hi everyone,

I am going on 3 months and I have been experiencing some bloating and pain in the right side of my back (lower part of the ribs to be exact). I figured it is just because I am back to eating more food compared to when I had no appetite or was eating very little. Has anyone had this similar pain? I would think it would be more in the front of my abdomen.

Additionally I had lost roughly 9 kg once I started to get sick. I am now sitting around 79 - 81 kg and while I am eating, I don't feel I am gaining any weight back. How much weight did you lose and for those of you that are better, how long until you gained it back?

Thank you and feel better for those of still going through this!

Terry

    Hi Terry,

That almost sounds closer to your kidneys (unless I'm imagining the position wrong?). I haven't had that particular pain but have had so many other phantom pains in other places, I never know what's going on at any given moment. I've also had something more like IBS since contracting the virus (although I'm still in the thick of it), and if I eat the wrong thing (Indian, or something oily), all sorts of hell breaks loose in terms of digestive pain.

Maybe your digestive system is just getting used to the quantity again - the stomach tends to shrink if you eat less for a while.

    I've lost 5 kg so far 😦

Hope the stomach issues clears for you!

    Hi Terry,

So sorry to hear you are going through this dreaded virus, I remember 3 months being a very tough stage for me as things were still so intense and draining every day but to be going on like that every day for so long is so horrible and terrible to go through physically, mentally and emotionally.

Just want to encourage you Terry that things do get better - this was the worst stage for me I think looking back. And that bloating / strange / painful feeling in the right abdomen can be very common - this is where the spleen is and it can be very common to get all sorts of weird pains and sensations around that area as it is one of the central areas for glands in the body. It's always wise to get that checked out by the doctor in case of an enlarged spleen which can sometimes happen in the early stages for people through mono, it may be something you've already got checked out but a doctor should be able to check if very simply with an outward examination.

Weight loss is also something that can be common going through such a nasty and horrible virus. I was fortunate that my weight didn't reduce during the virus but I have read the stories of many people who that happened to, and then it returned to normal again as things started to get better. Sometimes taking vitamins and herbs can not only help boost your immune system but also help with managing your weight too, amino acids may be something that could help with that but I'm not an expert just something in the back of my mind telling me that might be the case - might be worth getting advice from a herbal doctor / specialist, I know that helped me during recovery. Bowen therapy is another thing which I found helpful.

Hang in there Terry - you will get better, it's such a frustrating virus and so hard to be patient, just take it one day at a time and truly I believe with God's help you will get there. I know it was only down to God and His mercy that I was able to recover, it was one of the worst times of my life but God is the great healer. There is hope and recovery ahead Terry! Message any time.
