Blocked ears.

Hi everyone, I started with a cold 12 days ago & 11 days ago both my ears blocked up & still haven't cleared. My right ear is more blocked than the left one & all I can hear is very muffled sounds. I have a constant ringing noise in my right ear but not my left. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this due to a cold & if so how long does it last for ? Driving me crazy now as I just can't seem to clear my ears. Hope someone might have any tips on how to clear them please.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it took my one ear , 3 months to clear from the same condition and it was a wait and see situation. I think it's an individual thing.

Thank you for replying delphine, how on earth did you put up with it for that long !! It's been 11 days in both ears for me & starting to grind a bit know. Still I suppose it's a wait & see thing eh. Once again thanks for replying to my post.

Hi Dave I had a nasty cold and sinus infection back in January and my right ear is still plugged. Crackles, pops, muffled sounds etc. First visit to ENT said everything looked normal, hearing test also came back normal. Going in to see my ENT again next week for a nasal endoscopy to see if a polyp has developed from the sinus infection.

Hi vas1972, thank you for replying to my post.

I get the odd pop & crackle in both ears & sometimes they clear for about 30 seconds but then I can feel them filling up again & back to muffled sounds. I suppose it's a waiting game. Doesn't help when you've got big ears like me thou lol. Once again thanks for your reply.

It's a pain in the butt I'm going on 6 months like you I can get them to pop I feel brief relief and then it begins to fill up. I've had 2 courses of antibiotics, 2 different steroid nasal sprays, heating pads, ear drops you name it and nothing has worked. Through a lot of searching on the net I read that nasal polyps can develop after a sinus infection and the polyp can block the Eustacean Tube so I'm hoping that's the case. Definitely go see an ENT and see what they recommend.

It is most definitely a pain in the rear & the ear lol.

Im on antibiotics at the moment due to the fact I have a lung disease called Bronchiectasis & the infection has gone to my lungs. The antibiotics aren't working yet so will make an appointment with the doc on Monday for more antibiotics & to see what he/she says about my ears. Thank you once again vas for talking to me and the advice, it's very much appreciated.

Hi delphine, I'm on antibiotics at the moment as the cold has gone to my lungs & I already suffer from a lung disease called Bronchiectasis, I was hoping the antibiotics would of sorted my ears out as well as my ears but nothing yet. I'm going to make an appointment on Monday to see my GP again if my ears haven't cleared & to get more antibiotics as my symptoms are getting worse. Thank you for talking to me, it's very much appreciated.

Do you still have the cold? It could be a sinus/ear infection. Are you having any pain in your ears? You may require Antibiotics. I just went through the same thing, mine started with an cold too, then got sinus and double ear infection, it took two rounds of a strong antibiotic to clear it up. You need to go see a Doctor, you may have fluid in your ears, or the tubes in your ears may not be working properly and will not let your ears drain. Either way I would go see a Doctor. Hope you get better soon!!

Hi Janet, I saw the SR nurse at my doctors yesterday, she has put me on doxycycline as I also suffer from Bronchiectasis & I have to see her in 2 weeks time to see how I'm doing. I was told I also have MRSA which was found from a sputum test they sent off just over a week ago. As for my ears it's just the Eustachian tubes that are blocked due to cold I had, she said it should clear on its own but could take up to 6 weeks. The ears themselves look healthy when she looked inside so it's just a waiting game. Thanks for responding to my post, hope your ok & all is well.

Once again thanks for responding to my post,

      Dave :-)
