Blocked Nose

Posted , 2 users are following.

I have for the past month suffered with a blocked nose, the left side, thankfully the right side is clear.

Doctor gave me antibiotics a week ago, which has helped the headache but has not cleared my nose.

Have tried steam inhallation and sinus washes, which help for half an hour then back where I started.

It's driving me mad, especially ay at night, cannot sleep and it's all getting me down and very anxious.

It does not appear to be blocked by mucas but the lining seems to be inflamed.

Any thoughts as to the way ahead.

Thanks.

It could be any sort of obstruction, keep insisting to your doctor that you are not better in order to be referred to an ENT

Seen doctor again, he does not think it is an obstruction, if I massage half way up my nose I can hear a lot of gunge squelching around but I cannot get rid of it.

So more antibiotics and fluconase spray twice a day.

Do hope this works soon as it is driving me up the wall!!

Unless he has ordered a ct scan, he cannot know this. I will explain this better, he is delaying to send you to a specialist because of guidelines suggest him to wait up to three month after trying all that he's got. Unless you improve you pretty much you have to observe isfthe medicine works, If not you should be patient with your GP for two month more, at least he's trying. My only suggestion is to google for allergy symptoms. Allergy may cause sinusitis and make you prone to bacterial infections.

If this is caused by an allergy, would I not have had symptoms previously?

Not doubting what you say, but just a thought.

Indeed but having sinusitis is a symptom of having an allergy, although your doctor is thinking exactly the same because fluconase is an antiallergic medication. Only if you google it you may realize if you have missed any symptom.

These two sicknes are related in fact the name of snusitis is rhinosinusitis.

But right now having just one bout of sinusitis is not out of the blue, you will have to worry if the bout does not go or if comes back soon after it gets better.
