Blood after diarrhoea

Hello, can anyone help me please. I had a knee op in January and have been on Solpadol painkillers since then. They make you drowsy so I am unable to have any alcohol. Also I have been trying to lose weight to help my knee so have a very healthy diet. Recently I have been treated, on two occasions, to a meal and a few glasses of wine and on both occasions I have woken up in the early hours with severe cramping in my lower stomach with sweating and a faint feeling and severe diarrhoea. The first time the diarrhoea cleared up the next morning but this time, two weeks later, i have had bleeding from my bottom. It is fresh blood on the toilet paper and in the water it seems like blood clots. This has been going on all day today. Has anyone had anything like this please. Susan x

That is not from the Solpidol.  I wouldn;t think.  I have taken tht off and on for years for arthritis and have had drinkw with it - never had anything such as what you have described  Maybe others have?

What I do know is Solpidol causes Constipation - if you get constipated you can have "Bypass" stools which is like diarheaa, and you can have bright red blood on the tissue.

I wouls contact your surgeon straight away for advise.

Thank you for your reply. I will do as you suggest. I have not had a problem with the Solpadol before, but was thinking it was a bit of a coincidence that the twice i went out, both times I had similar things happen. I must admit, this time it has frightened me.

I mean, it IS possible - if you are sensitive to drugs - so it could have been - I am just very aware of the times it has caused me constipation.  And its much better to deal with constipation sooner rather than later - as it gets more difficult if you are severly constipated. If you have been taking it reguarly since January, I would not be at all surprised - but theseare just geusses...deffo worth the peace of mind to speak wth the doc.  smile  x
