Blood and mucus in stool:(

Hi there, I am a 33 year old female, I have 2 young kids (2.5 and 7 months) the last couple months I've noticed blood streaked stools and mucus with my BM. I have had harder, compact stools since my daughter was born. I usually go once a day and that can sometimes be quite hard. The blood I see can be almost every BM for a few days and then nothing visible again for a few days. Mucus mixed with blood when I wipe. So far I have had 2 blood tests,2 weeks apart, and everything showed normal, minus a slight iron deficiency. White blood cells and full panel all showed normal. My occoult blood test however came back positive both times. I am so scared, I have 2 beautiful babies and husband. I go back and forth from being terrified to calm. My doctor thinks it's internal hemmroids?, especially since having 2 babies within 2 years. I have a sigmoidoscopy this Friday the 9th. Don't know why I came here to vent I'm just really scared....and I need to be the rock and strong for my babies...

Hi there I've just come across your post and I'm going through a similar thing at the minute. Mine started last July and after months I was referred for a sigmoidoscopy and diagnosed initially with proctitis and prescribed with suppositories .When I had my follow up appointment with the gastro Dr he said he didn't think it was proctitis due to normal biopsies and was basically told to live with it . I always believed I had internal hemmoroids and actually had a look and took a photo to show my gp who agreed . I've now been referred to a colorectal specialist to look at banding . Hope your sigmoidoscopy goes well . Please let me know how you get on .

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I had another follow up with my GP to go over the latest blood and stool sample test. Again, he reassured me that he honestly? does not think it's cancer and my blood test showed no inflammation. He said if it was cancer, or Crohn's that would be high. So just a couple more days until the scope part. I hope it is treatable. What does banding involve? I hope you get referred soon. I was told my GI referral will be 9 months....

The banding is basically a rubber band put onto the hemmoroids tightly then after a few days the hemmoroid falls off . I've heard mixed stories on it but to be honest after almost a year of suffering I 'll try anything . Hope all goes well on Friday and try not to worry

Hi there! Hope you're well.
Red blood and good other tests tell you that you are fine.
Don't worry! I've had red blood 4 months after I've had my girl. It's classic. We get it after having our kids.
Don't worry.
Let us know how you are.

Update, the sigmoidoscopy showed hemorrhoids!!! (Never thought I'd be so happy to have hemorrhoids)
So bleeding can be attributed to that, but not sure how long they stick around or what healing time is...Dr told me to get something to help soften my stool and that should help.

I'm pleased you now have a diagnosis . From experience they can bleed for months intermittently ( mine have for 11 months now ) . The stool softener will help and drink plenty of water.
