Blood Clots After Surgery

Posted , 2 users are following.

Hi,

I had hip replacement surgery 9 weeks ago, Last week I had to call an ambulance and was then kept in hospital overnight, sent home the next day after being told I had blood clots in the lung, the lung had partially collapsed but would recover and to take apixaban for 3 months.

I am breathless and feel dizzy sometimes, I do not know if this is because I am scared having the clots or whether it is the clots themselves.

I am posting this though as I want to know if it is safe to exercise, I have been given no infirmation from the hospital therefore, at a loss as to how to look after myself.

I am hoping people on here have been through this and may have some answers.

Thanks.

    Hi Jen,

In general, exercise is good (I was recommended light exercise after mine), but two provisos:

    1. Don’t overdo it. Pushing yourself as far as you can is not a good idea, do what is comfortable.

    2. Always worth checking with your specialist.

Breathlessness and dizziness are likely to have roots in both the PEs and anxiety, but at this early stage breathlessness is normal.

Good luck with the recovery...it will get better!

    Peter
