blood from a swollen prostrate

hello, i am a male in my early 50's
I was diagnosed with a swollen prostrate in january 2021, they booked me for Turp surgery which was suppose to be 3 weeks later.
they installed the Foley catheter in me, i was really tender.
but i went back to work full time.
after a while it was just too sore and I had to cut my work schedule in half.
it kept getting infected, 4 infections later the pain finally stopped, infections stopped.
I was able to go back to work full time..
everything was fine the pain was all gone I could resume my normal walking stride
it had been 3 months since the catheter was put in.
my surgery was put off because of Covid, they where only doing life threatening surgeries.
its been 4 months now and the other day my bag was full of blood, I was doing some rototilling at work and I think the vibration aggravated the prostrate.
i went to the hospital and they did blood tests and urine tests..
everything was fine no infection kidneys where 100%
they told me to bed rest, so i have been..
it looked like red wine for about 4 days then it turned clear like water..
i was laying on the couch trying not to sit or move too much for the 4 days.
once it stayed clear for over a day
I started doing light house work, then it went dark red again.
so back to the couch.. i rested again.
It took 2 days to turn clear.
but i am still taken it easy, I might try sitting up later and see if it still stays clear,
my question is:
does anyone now how long it might take for the bladder to heal when blood is present from an aggravated prostrate.
my surgery was postponed again for another 1-3 months, so it looks like I will have the catheter for another few months.

Hey Jake
So sorry for what your going through. Can I ask you a question. Did you get a second opinion. Have you looked into anything else or is that the only thing your doctor does
How big is your prostate and did they do any test on you or just told you that the Turp was it.
Why did they not start you on any medication to see if that would help.
I know what you are talking about with the burgundy color blood. I had a catheter for 10 days could not pee they sent me home on a Friday and I was fine woke up on Saturday and it was that color but only 100 cc all day I went back to the hospital and had a scan with the dye. Within 30 minutes of getting back to my room the doctor came in and told me my bladder was inflamed.
I had to have a 24 hour drip for 2 days. The first one he gave me in 5 minutes because my kidney were failing. Was fine after that
I know you said that you are in your early 50's Do you have any concerns about your sex life or your ejaculations. I know you have not told the whole story but that can't be the only thing they can do.
What type of Turp is the doctor going to do or is he just going in and core the whole thing out. I hope he is not going to be to aggressive. If he is you will leak and have to ware pads for the rest of your life also you will pee when you have sex if you can. You will have to ware a condom.
There are so many Turps out there. Laser, Plasma, Button. You can also have a Ejaculation Sparing Turp. Or are you not concerned with your sex life.
I think you need to see another doctor and see what else there is before it is to late
You know once it is done it is to late to go back. It is up to you but you will have to deal with the side effects. The doctor will just move on to the next.
God Bless...Ken

the turp surgery was determined after they sent a camera up and the urologist seen that it was swollen..
one day i could not pee, that is what started the whole thing.
not sure what exact method their using but they will do a partial removal and remove the section that is blocking the bladder.
flomax is the only medication they prescribed

So you have a enlarged prostate. BPH
What you are saying is that you have a blocked bladder neck. Did they tell you how big it is. For you to stop peeing there has to be something else wrong. Mine double in size and my doctor could not get the scope in the prostate
I had a Urolift and I'm still open after 7 years, Orgasms are intense and so are my ejaculation. At 65 I want them to stay that way. A Turp would never happen on me even if i had cancer. No way in hell
But you do what you want. Did your doctor tell you that you have a 50/50 change of it working. We have had some other men on here that had the same thing. Sometimes it works and sometimes it done
GOOD LUCK KEN

I finally got in for my operation, it was a long 5+ months of wearing the catheter waiting for turp.
covid levels dropped enough that the hospital resumed turp surgeries.
the surgery was done via a laser, it went well there was not a lot of pain after.
the pain was more intense when the healing started.
urination was pain full for about 7 weeks..
i am in week 8 now and their is almost 0 pain..
my flow is amazing really strong and power full
I find my orgasms are a lot stronger too
the doctor told me the ejaculate would go into my bladder and I would p**s it out, so I would not be able to have kids.
this was fine by me, as I am i my 50's now and am focusing on retirement, so raising kids is not an option for me at this stage in my life.
I like the fact that when I orgasm there is no mess lol
it has been 8 weeks and I resume full working duty on aug 3rd at my job..
all in all it went really good, the pain was more intense then I thought it would be, but it is all done now..
all the tests of the tissue came back negative for cancer so that was a huge relief
I have a friend that had the same surgery with the same doctor as me 4 years ago, so it is good for me. I can quiz him out about it..
so far he has had no issues 4 years after his turp,.

Hey Buddy
Thank you for getting back to me. I'm happy for you and happy that it is working. I know the choice you had was the Turp because you had to get rid of the catheter. So you are in your med 50's. Yes you get Retro from a Turp. You did not say if you had kids already. But this is you choice. Glad you have no problem with erection and I am so happy that your orgasms are good. Sometimes they are cut to a 1/3 of what they are.
God bless and I hope it all stays that way...Be safe Ken
Also glad no cancer for you

The bleeding may not be from the prostate. It is due to probably the catheter rubbing to the inside of your uretha, anywhere is possible including the prostate. Why did you have the Foley installed in the 1st place? Were you able to urinate naturally before that?
I would have the foley catheter removed and considere self catherization (CIC).

i could not pee.
so a foley was put in, then they sent a camera up and seen my prostrate was swollen and blocking the bladder..
so the turp was scheduled and i have had the catheter in ever since...
still waiting for a surgery date.

Jake that still does not make sense. He did not do anything else. Even when my prostate was double in size and he could not get the scope through the prostate to check the bladder I still could pee ( Force myself ) With medication.
Having that catheter in is making your bladder weak. He should be trying to make it strong and that catheter is not helping. Your still a young man and you do not say anything about what do you think. This is what the doctor told me I need
I feel sorry for you. You gave up on your body. That should never happen. You should look at the video of a Turp procedure and see what he is going to do with your body. The side effects that come with that surgery.
I have read many post from men after they have had a Turp procedure. All of them have the same thing in common. They want to take the doctor and tied him to a table and do the same to him so he has to deal with the same thing.
Best of luck......I will pray for you....Ken

Jake,
You should have some tests before deciding on surgery. Trans rectal ultra sound (TRUS) to determine the size of your prostate. It can also be done by MRI, but is a lot more expensive. Have you had the PSA test to help determine if you might have cancer ? The doctor should do a DRE (Digital Rectal Exam) to feel for any lumps on the prostate, and get a rough idea of the prostate size. You should be seeing a Urologist, not a General Practitioner. When they do a cystoscopy on you tell the urologist you want to see the images yourself, and have him explain his findings, in particular ask him if he sees an enlarged median lobe, because that can determine which procedure would be best for you.
In the meantime you would probably find self catheterization, CIC, better than a permanent foley catheter. There are some on this forum who even suggest it as a permanent solution instead of surgery or drugs.
At the age of 50 you should consider some of the procedures that have a better chance of avoiding Retrograde Ejaculation. RE, (Dry ejaculation). Look into Ejaculation Sparing TURP. Rezume, Urolift, Prostate Artery Embolization (PAE), Focal Laser Ablation (FLA). Consider using CIC to buy time while you look into all these procedures.

I feel the same way. To me his doctor is to cut and dry. He is to young to have a Turp without knowing for sure what is going one.
He needs more test
God Bless Ken
