Hi all, I'm just asking a question on behalf of my hubby.

He has finished having Radiotherapy, about 2wks ago, since then on occasion he is getting blood coming from his rectum, not all the time just occasionally ,could anyone tell me is this normal or is it something we should be worried about.

He has also had a couple of occasions where he has been caught short, will this pass.

    Hi Norma

Easy for me to say, but I don't think too much to worry about. However I would report it, either to the RT Clinic, or the Oncologist's secretary.

The RT sessions are bound to upset his insides, especially the enemas (if he had them every day).

You will see from another thread that I have bleeding from rectum which only shows on the toilet tissue. This due Radiation proctopathy diagnosed 18 months after RT.

Is he being caught short at the front or the rear end ?

Hi Supercargo ,I value your intake just as much as anyone else,so when you say "easy for me to say"  just a reply puts our minds at rest.

So thank you.Like you it is only on the toilet paper, and he gets caught short now and again from the back passage.

But as you say it could just be normal, but new to us,we will just keep an eye on it he's due to see his Oncologist soon.

                Thank you. You take care.

    Good day Norma,

I had a bad time too after the radiation treatment. 10 days later I developed Acute Radiation Proctitis AKA 'fried bowel...' Could not leave my bed for a couple of weeks and was afraid to be more than 10m from a toilet. It took about two months to clear up but I'm now back to my normal routine. Had some suppositories and cream from my GP which did the trick after a fortnight or so.  Watch the diet and keep curry away from the man...plenty of salmon, salad and light pasta worked for me.  Hang in there, it does get better.

    Regards,

    Tamtoot

Hi tom34496, Thank you for your reply. We will keep an eye open for this.

When this all began back in April, when my hubby had his biopsys the next day he had contracted Septicaemia, and he was really poorly, something he's not used to as up until then he was very fit .So you can see his concern when somethings not quite right, that he wasn't told about.

We will keep an eye on it,if it gets any worse we will get it sorted.

Thank you very much for your reply,it is appreciated .

                       You Take Care.

This is nothing to worry about. It's caused by inflammation of the rectum/ bowel from the RT. Should subside soon.
