Blood in Urine

Posted , 9 users are following.

Hi, for a couple of weeks I have found after having a pee and wiping myself the toilet paper is stained a pale pink colour. Then yesterday I went to pee and there was a large amount of bright red blood and, of course, the toilet paper soaked in blood - but from then all has been normal. I have had no pain and no cystitis so that cannot be the problem. Any ideas??

Regards

    Hi Jean

You havent been eating beetroot by any chance? Just ruling out the obvious first.

You need to see your GP asap and get a 2 week referral to haematuria clinic to rule out the 'not so' obvious.

Please dont put it off, if you are in UK look up the NICE guidelines for haematuria (blood in urine) it will give you an idea of what should be done.

    Good luck x

Hi Jean, no beetroot eaten?? I did wonder if it was a stone that had finally come away (not that I know if I had one) but I guess I would have felt the pain of it passing through if it was.

Will have ti visit the doc me thinks.

      Thanks for the reply

Yes, Jean, you would definitely know about it if you passed a stone.  My hubby has had this experience twice and would probably describe it quite colourfully!  Far more likely to be a urine infection or just a one- off.  I say that because a few years ago, I had a similar experience when I passed blood but no pain or other symptoms.  I did wonder at the time if I perhaps had had a polyp that sorted itself out.  I did have a polyp removed from my bladder last year which was considered to have been caused by the frequent UTIs I was experiencing during the previous months.  I agree with Jane that you should see your GP ASAP to rule out anything untoward.  Lots of good luck wishes.

Hope you had not consumed beet root the day before. However, I remember my GP indicating that the blood in urine is suggestive of  infections in the body like UTI, bacterial/viral etc.

You should really go see your doctor about this. It could be the start of something very serious.

Hi jean68130, hope you are doing better. I had similar symptoms and bursts of sharp pain (that last for a split second). A CT showed bladder calcifications, but no further treatment was suggested other than Buscopan tablets to ease the cramps.

If you don't mind me asking, did your doctors manage to find out what was causing your problems?

Hi Dan, I had a CT Scan this week and waiting for the results next week. I had the blood in my wee for several weeks but it wasn't until today that I suddenly thought about the Tramadol. Maybe a coincidence but when I was off the Tramadol for 2 weeks there was no blood in my wee but I had a tablet this morning (for hip pain) and saw blood in my wee this evening. All very odd. I had bladder cancer (and cured) 7 years ago so the blood situation set the wheels in motion - maybe it could be the Tramadol but I cannot find anything confirming this when I look up the side effects? I do not have cramps.

      Regards

      Jean
