Blood in urine caused by Apixaban

Having had a radical prostatectomy and then Radio Therapy six years later when my PSA started to rise again. Because of the RT my prostate area has been weakened and veins are now close to the surface. I was put on Warfarin for AF some years ago but due to the inconvenience of regular blood tests my surgery put me on Apixaban. I have been suffering with blood in the urine for some time since starting Apixaban and after a cystoscopy and scan the new drug seems to be the cause of the regular bleeding from that area which can last for days and is quite worrying. It is also very uncomfortable. Has anyone else had this problem?

I had a radical Prostatectomy 20 months ago and have been on Apixaban for 3 years now with no problem at all. From what you say I would see your Dr urgently as you should not be bleeding like this and Apixaban is not as severe as some of the other blood thinners that made my nose and ear bleed.

Condition is known as Radiation Cystitis with Gross Hematuria ....explained on Radiation Cystitis Foundation....I am dealing with it as well......2 rounds of HDR Brachy at UCLA in 3/2018 has resulted in pain on urination , urgency and blood .with clots in urine.....flush with lots of water but blood is still there......I am on heavy fish oil also a blood thinner.........the only non-invasive low risk treatment I have read that has been successful is Hyper Baric Oxygen Therapy......typically requires 30 + treatments of high grade oxygen ........your urologist will probably want to do a CT Scan and a cystoscopy to rule out bladder cancer which has same symptoms....make sure they use a flex scope and the dr doing them has done hundreds of men as you are fried and torn up inside and easily injured in any procedures

Thank you CLJim . As stated in my announcement of this problem I have had a cystoscopy and scan and nothing nasty has been found. The urologist said that there was damage caused by the RT on top of the radical prostotectomy and that is irreversible. Its something that has to be lived with. I have AF and by not taking anticoagulants risks other more serious problems.
