Blood in wee, with stinging and pain.

Posted , 6 users are following.

I started yesterday with awful stinging and pain when I wee. Been drinking plenty of water but last night I noticed my urine was pink. This morning I noticed blood on the toilet paper and pink urine. I have LS & LP. Been up most of the night going to the loo a lot more with urgency. Do I call a doctor out???? I live in UK. Irritable bowel playing up also. I have bicarb of soda baths each night use clob once a night. During the day was using coconut oil but dermotologist told me to use Hydromol. It is a Sunday so should I wait until tomorrow or get a GP out. No point in going to A&E, 6 hours wait. Please can someone give me some advice?

Hello Anne,  Poor you, that sounds horrible.  Do you think you might have a urine infection?  I think if I were you, (and I also live in the UK) I would phone 111 and ask their advice - it's going to mean a lot of sitting and waiting on the phone but probably better than sitting in A&E for all those hours feeling uncomfortable. You could also go to a pharmacist and ask their advice. Good luck, and keep us updated, Gillian

Hello Gillian, thanks for your help. I am going to try phoning 111 first for their advice. If no luck with them I will find who the duty pharmacist is in my area. It is so many years since I last had cystitis or urinary infection I forgotten what it was like. I have had so much stress this year I cannot think straight. The LS worries me but I was told by the dermotologist I had it well controlled. I'm not so sure it is at the moment! Thank you for your quick response, Anne.

Hi Anne. If there is a considerable amount of blood and you are at all concerned I would suggest that you contact the out of hours service, if nothing else this will reassure you until you can get an appointment with your GP.

Hi Teresa, I have been in touch with 111. Could not fault them. A lady doctor phoned me back. Loads of questions and a doctor that knew about LS. She did offer me appointments at two hospital if I wanted them. Or see my GP tomorrow with a sample. She does think it is a urine infection and as I have not passed blood for four hours she said, If it gets any worse with blood to phone them back and she will get me an appointment! Plenty water, paracetamol, and go to loo every time I have the urge to wee! If I stop weeing, have a fit or bruising appearing on body dial 999. The lady that answered 111 was so sweet and helpful. The doctor was so calming and did not rush me, talk time was unlimited. Thanks Teresa and Gillian for your help, my partner who is going to be 80 in January was so worried, he did not know what to tell me to do! Amazing ladies on this forum, 👍👍👍Anne.

Hello Anne,  I am really pleased 111 was so helpful, and what a bit of luck you spoke to a Dr who knew what she was talking about. These things so often happen at a weekend, don't they.  I hope you feel better soon. xx

I think that you need to see a doctor immediately.  Bladder infection I think. Drink loads of water.

      Hi Hanny,

Drinking loads of water. Pain has gone and no more blood. Taken paracetamol and feeling quite a lot better.

I am definitely seeing a GP at 8.30am tomorrow morning.

I will be taking a sample with me for test for urine infection/ bladder infection.

I could not have travelled the distance to the out of hours clinic earlier today at either of the hospitals. Thankfully I had four hours sleep this afternoon

Thank you for your advice, Hanny.

Hi Gillian and other ladies that helped me yesterday. Seen the doc, yes I have a urinary tract infection. Prescribed trimethoprim, one tablet twice a day for three days. Also flucanazole capsule if I get thrush!

Well I hope this works, enough with daily routine for LS and LP!

Many thanks for your support. Anne xxx

      Hello Hanny,

Many thanks for your good wishes. I have not had a bladder infection for about 25 years and had forgotten how horrid they are!

Hoping urine is all clear when I take it in for testing Thursday!

      Anne.

It is a horrible problem, that I am too familiar with.  I found out that due to LS the urinary tract was easily affected.  With the earliest sensation of possible infection I learned to rinse with apple cider vinegar diluted in my Perin bottle after bathroom visit.  Often the infection passed my door.  Perhaps a thought for future problems?  And never forgetting to drink enough each day, mainly herb tea or water (warm or cold)  often pulled me through as well.
